hi all i posted awhile back about loss of power every mile i had electronics checked no fault i then had filter cleaned and new breather pipe told to drill hole in petrol cap even ran without cap but problem still there do u think i should have new pump as its mind boggling and the garage doesnt seem to know its been in three times costa mega buks need all help i can get thanks

hi all the data seems to point to some kinfd of over heating problem althougth gauge does not read hot and after loss of power and stop still ticks over could this be a heat sensor and where isit i do not have a manual like other posts the longer u sit and wait when it happens the further u seem to go average about a mile i have recently driving no more than 40mpg and no problem untill i siopped to talk to someone and left engine on tick over for about five mins drove about other mile and happend again its so frustraiting as u never know when its going to happen any input would be most gratefull thanks

no it was not a slosing sound it was like something hot cooling down slowly a thump

Thank you. The thumping was when the car was stationary with the engine turned off, the noise appeared to be coming from the rear.

Hiya Guys, The problem has returned.Today I went a journey of approx 7 miles, when I had nearly reached my destination the car lost power and stopped, this time however I heard a thumping noise which repeated every 10 secs, the sound gradually got less and the time between the thumps lengthened till it eventually disappeared, this took a few minutes. On the return journey this recurred 6 times. I have been to the local garage, they say they have no idea what it could be, I phoned the landrover dealers who want me to bring it in when the fault is happening, but they need me to book it in, as it doesn't always happen I don't see how I can do this and with the dealer being nearly 30 miles away it is not really possible. Someone suggested it could be the fuel filter, I have tried locating this with no luck, I asked the Landrover dealer where it was and was told that there isn't one....BUT, if there is it may be in the tank, what kind of an answer is that? Does anyone know the location please? Please help, I live out in the sticks and I need the car to survive.

hi we eventually got home went to garage following morning no problem 3miles filled up have used car on small journeys all day and no more problems the car did loose power quick but most of time still ticked over but would not drive away again untill waiting with ignition off the pump sounded alot louder when switching back on it seemed the longer we waited the further it would run strange i will try and look at your suggestions we are very gratefull for your replys thanks

Hiya Guys, We have a freelander 1.8 1998. When we went shopping today, we got there fine, when we started home after about 5 miles all power seemed to go and we stopped, the petrol was low but it had only just touched the red (which should have been more than enough to get us home). We pulled into a layby for a few minutes and restarted the engine, the car drove again for approx. 3 miles and did the same again,we had to repeat this all the way home, only being able to go between one and two miles at a time before the power went. It appeared the longer we waited on our stops the further the car would go. if we only waited a short time before trying to start the engine it would turn over but not fire. We were on a country road, with no petrol stations between us and home. Would be really grateful for any input as to what the problem is, Thanks.

Hi, I have a freelander R reg 1.8. The abs, HDC TC lights will not go out, I took it for it's MOT and although they said they cannot find any faults they won't pass it untill the lights are out. I have taken it to a diagnostic computer, they said it was either the sensor or the cv joint, my mechanic has looked at these and says they are ok. The disc on the wheel in question (drivers side front) is quite pitted and worn, is there a possibility that this is the cause? Would be really grateful for any input on this, I am at my wits end, Thanks.
