  1. LOL the engine yea. Bought as good as new from a Perkins dealer with 4 hours on it, when pussy was a kitten. It has 135 bhp (not a standard Phaser its an ex research and development engine.) and 295 ft/lbs at not-a-lot-of-revs. Choice made in the days when 200 TDi engines were only avalable still warm and grinding marks instead of an engine number or a Samurai GMC V8 conversion.Originally fitted to a 127 I built with LT 95 box, overdrive and 9.00 x 16 Michelin XLs. Decided to sell 127 so whipped out engine and dropped in a V8. Bought an ex-mod 110. Got a 3500GVW chassis galvanised, fitted Perkins, now running with an LT85 and LT 230 transfer box to which I fitted a set of 1.003:1 transfer gears. Vehicle on 7.50 x 16 Avon Range masters, does 25 mpg around town, 32 on a run and 95 mph flat out. I wouldn't choose that engine now, but then at the time I guess it was one of the better engines avalable.
  2. Thanks, I have ordered the correct one from Ebay, at £40 quid new it seems worth it. Apparently made by Ricardo, I guess it is made for the upgraded Snatch ( Vixen ) so may well suit my 110 Hi-cap which is nose heavy with a Perkins Phaser T440.
  3. Thanks for your quick reply. I had one fitted to a 127 I built with a front Salisbury. I put the axle onto my 110 and now need to fit anti roll bars. Looking through ebay the front bars all look a similar size, I just need to know if a standard 110 or Disco 1 anti roll bar will fit, albeit with a different orientation. As I am a long time out of the REME getting parts info is hard, my 90/110/127 military parts catalouge doesn't list the SAS variants ( and says so on the front cover lol) Thanks again for your help.
  4. Hi, I apologise if I a previous request has not appeared yet but does as this gets aired. Is the front anti roll bar from the above vehicle the same as the civi 90 and 110s? I am aware that the snatch anti roll bar is ahead of the front axle and behind "normal" rovers I just need to know if the tube is the same as any other models. Any advice will be gratefully recieved.
  5. I have had one of these axles for many years, firstly on a 127 I built and then swapped onto my present 110. Other than the casing and inner half shafts I believe most of internals are standard rear Salisbury or Rover front axle. They were fitted as an option with enormous vented diccs with calipers by AP. The ex RUC one I have has such brakes, I don't think, but am not certain, that the Pinkies had the vented discs. As I live in Merseyside I am curious to its history, I never saw any out and about with that front axle.
  6. Hi there. I have a 1986 110 and am planning on fitting anti roll bars to it. From the 'net I can gather a Discovery ( 200+ 300 tdi) rear anti roll bar will fit the rear end of my 110. ( cheaper and more avalable second hand). The advice I need is the front where I have a Salisbury axle fitted. On a previous 127 I owned/built I had an ex Snatch anti roll bar on the front, this was fitted ahead of the front axle and I intend going down the same route with this 110 I have. I need to know, is this the same part as a standard front anti roll bar with anything else, the only difference being its orientation? From looking at pics on fleabay, my main parts supplier, the front anti roll bars look the same on disco 1 and rr classic and 90/110. I just need to be sure. Any advice would be gratefully recieved.Thanks.
  7. Thanks Western your advice is much appreciated.
  8. Hi Ladies / Gents, I'm hoping some one can help me cut through the B******t and give me a simple answer to an easy question. I have a '86 110 on Salisbury axles (yep front too) and fitting some "wolf" rims.Stud length isn't quite right and I dont want to compromise safety so question is........What part number do I need to order the correct length studs? I have seen some advertised on scambay at £27 per 5....eeeek for 60mmm long.My pal has a 300 tdi Discovery on steel rims and the rim knave plate thickness seems about 6mm (as per "Wolf" rim). So can I fit Disco studs ( I guess which are 45mm long)or do I need the "goldplated...not) 60mm bad boys? Many thanks in anticipation.
  9. hi, from my days in the REME i seem to remember that the base colour needs to cover 3/4 of the vehicle, and that the other colour (remaining 1/4) needs applying in such a way as to break the shape up.ie across corners or up and over roofs and sills. Hard to explain, if i find a pic out there ill post it.There is bound to be something official out there to confirm or deny what I've said. Dont forget to achieve the genuine army finish use 10 year old paint, applied with a yard brush whilst suffering from a hang over.Oh yea, and dont forget not to wash the vehicle first.
