whan they do it make sure they replace the plastic dowels with steel ones, it should stop the problem ever happening again.
Yep already told them that will need doing. I was planning on a v8 conversion, this is looking more probable now.
Thanks for the advice guys

Why not give Turners a ring. I have never used or spoken to them, but everyone says they are brilliant.

I've read this aswel, apparently it says this in the manual that you can't, but numerous people have said they have skimmed them with no problem.
I just don't know whether to let the garage get on with it, or whether to get some advice from other garages?

Hi Guys
The head gasket went on my '99 Defender TD5 on Saturday, so I dropped it at my local Land Rover specialist and I got a call off him tonight and he has confirmed the head gasket has gone.
He has quoted me £700 to skim, test and re assemble the head (new gaskets, bolts etc). How reasonable is that? Or is it a rip off?
Thanks in advance

I was approached by the Police yesterday, and they told me there had been 3 attempted Land Rover thefts in my area (Saddleworth, Greater Manchester).
I'm over Halifax way everyday so I'll keep my eye out for ones over that way

Btw, when the lever is pushed over, and I let go it just gradually returns back to 'non difflock', and its quite spongy

Hi Guys
I know this has been covered many times before on all the forums, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer and my '99 Def TD5 is in the garage tomorrow.
The had gasket blew yesterday ( ), and luckily the car was booked in tomorrow to have a wheel bearing done so they can do this at the same time, the question is, should I be fitting steel or plastic dowels? The last thing I want is telling them to fit steel and then the head cracking
My vin no is : SALLDVA87XA165643
Thanks in advance

From your username Rusty, I'd say back door

I've had the same problem on both my TD5 and 2.5TD, both were the reverse switch shorting. Reverse light isn't necessary for MOT so I've removed it completely

funnily enough we'd done Llangdegla on the sunday, driven over and camped in Betws-Y-Coed on the monday for the Marin trail and then set off home. I reckon its summat in the air at Llangdegla that eats fan belts.
Ha it must be by the sound of it! Cracking routes at Llandegla, I did my Mountain Bike Trail Leadership Award there. Cracking Cafe aswel!

I also had to do this on the way back from Coed Llandegla in North Wales when the fan belt went on my 2.5TD, didn't last long though

Hi Guys
Has anyone in Manchester got Nanocom?

Thanks in advance!

Pulled this lorry out of a ditch to the main road in deep snow!
WOW!

i take it if the motor breaks down you wont be approaching the previous owners demanding a refund
I'd rather take it to a Landrover dealer and let them wound me instead

I found this the other day aswel, cracking little thing

when i bought my old previous defender i decided to give it a good clean out as it came off a farm and had hay, chicken feed, mud and allsorts in it,by the time i'd cleaned it all out i'd found 3 shotgun shells and 7 .22 bullets (all live)
I also found a large amount .22's and a full box of 28gm shotgun shells, few £1 coins, a new TD5 fan belt and a live pistol in the ECU box! God knows what the previous owners were like
btw, the pistol is now in the hands of the police!

I'll keep my eye out Halifax way. Sorry to hear about another stolen one

Hi all
On my 1999 TD5, the diff lock lever won't stay in difflock, anyone any ideas? It pushes over, the light comes on and difflock does work (I've checked).
Is it a transfer box out jobby or is it a simple job? I'm getting sick of having to bunji the lever to the passenger door
Cheers

Another group that do it (or did) were Reliant Robin owners.
I suffered the shame of being driven around in a pink one as a teenager so don't even go there!

Guarenteed wave off Series owner, then anyone with offroad gear aswel, even ****zukis etc. I never really tend to even bother waving at Puma drivers as the majority are women who live on a cobbled lane

If I remember correctly, its a later defender 'airbag' wheel with the RRC centre pad rather than the defender stickey out one.
I thought it was a late TD5 one.
Don't suppose you know if early and late TD5's have same splines?
Sorry for being off topic here.

The chap I bought it off had replaced the whole engine loom prior to me buying it, but for £30, they may aswel bang a new injector loom whilst they're at it.
Cheers Guys
