and that was cos Turbocharger pushed me over in Boots.
If I might beg to differ, it was you who sat down to look at a hundred identical shades of eyelid varnish or somesuch girly thing. I hate Boots, never understood the layout.
Off topic? Me? Never.

Unless my name's down in stone for marshalling, I'll take up your bitching mantle Will.

Sorry guys - I went today I wasn't excluding you... err... just "testing". You'll be pleased to hear it's all there. We started at Avebury, headed down the Ridgeway and then south right across the Plain towards the Bustard, then turned right to the German village.
I'm certainly up for an outing, put me down as somewhere between nutter and blouse for all the dates.

James, I rang Darth earlier today - if he's looking for a teammate and it'll probably cost me a clutch, makes much more sense for him to join you. I'll empty my camera and take spare batteries and run round the site taking ... well, the tiddle, and photos.

JST - remind me what's actually going on down there where dragons be? I've got a Ninety and a winch (although it's only a Milemarker) - critical problem is that I don't really have low range although I'm game for a giggle... I thought I was going to a birthday bash though, must've missed the details while I was offline.

Chris, a tip from TeamNutter's Tom - when fitting the new windscreen, when 3 corners are in and one is soooo nearly there, don't tap it with a mallet. Not even a copper mallet.

<Head in hands> Anybody want a team-mate for Seven Sisters?

Anyone considering buying a Dell computer - any model - PM or call me first for the inside track on getting a discount/freebies.
Yeah, cheers Chris. I'm now resting my forehead on my brand new Dell keyboard, next to my Dell screen and plugged into my shiny new Dell computer. I should have asked first...

Simon - thanks for the opinion, I'll have a think about whether I want another gear above 5th, in return for less below 1st, bearing in mind I also have a set of 33" tyres for offroading.
Budgie - yes, email arrived nicely and the price seems good - I need to inspect my xfr box to make sure the PO hasn't welded the splines up first though! Piccies would be lovely though.
Cheers

Spot on, Mark - cheers. For anyone else, the old thread is here.
Summary: Looks like the setup works and is more economical although it's sluggish; there's always 4th gear to get the 'zip' back. The difference between 4th and 5th is 30%, and the difference between the transfer boxes is 15% so 5th@1.4 is a higher gear than 4th @1.2, meaning the 'new' 4th would be about halfway between 4th and 5th now, and 5th beyond that. The only potential problem will be an overgeared 1st for car parks etc. Hmm.

MOG,
Be careful beefing up the anti roll bar at the back; stiffer rear bars will encourage oversteer - if it tries to pick a back wheel up in heavy cornering...
Since you're trying to stop it rolling in corners, use the fact that the vehicle is rigid - if you've not got a front anti roll bar then that's where I'd start. Match the dampers to the springs so the ride isn't bouncy, choppy or "too" wallowy - they're not a good solution to big body roll because they'll have no effect once the car's leaning over (eg in long corners). That said, LR under-shock their vehicles for my preference but there's a whole minefield of user perception in different spring/shock combinations.

It's certainly sprightly on the 235/85s but it's certainly revving hard to keep me at 70mph. I'm hoping for a noise and fuel consumption decrease but obviously it'll burn more fuel if my foot's on the floor to maintain 70... Anybody know the ratio of the GKN Defender overdrive?

Does anyone have a 300Tdi and run a Disco transfer box in a Defender, or 235/85 tyres on a Disco? I'm interested in a Disco xfr box for my Ninety to improve the road 'volume' but I'm worried it won't have the legs for the bigger cogs - it'll nearly indicate 100mph at the moment (at 22mpg) but I'm worried I won't see any improvement if it'll sluggishly pull to 70mph with my foot on the boards in 5th.
Am I right in thinking the 1.2 box would raise high but leave low unchanged?
Cheers

My MM's on a standard bumper that came with it, probably Paddocks or similar:
but I keep burying it into the floor so, combined with finally getting a job, I think it's time to splash out on a bumper for it (after a new transfer box...). I'm not sold on the galv finish of the Technik one but it's nothing that can't be sorted with paint.
-
errmmm would it be this one?????
S'not the one I was thinking of....
It was MUCH bigger than that
-
Dave,
Put TeamNutter down for three vehicles please (myself, TroddenMasses and Tom Curtis) - we'll all have winches this time so hopefully no repeat of last time's epic recovery.

I am prepared to go with the best one...
I'm sure there's a photo floating round somewhere which could provide some inspiration... ?
-
I've been looking at bumpers recently, since mine works better as a plough than a winch mount. The "Technik" caught my £170 eye at Billing - click for picture although the galv isn't to my taste, it's nothing that can't be painted. I'd have to ask if he could include A-bar mounts too for me though.

Very helpfully, LRE told me how many unread replies a thread had.
But at least here they're not censored (- LRE), dismally dull (- LRO) or packed full of banter and swearing (- ORRP). That's not a dig at ORRP, it's just a different atmosphere here and for the better IMHO.

In fact Tony, rumour has it that there's some kind of celebration towards your neck of the woods at the end of the month. Would I be welcome at such an event?
S'good to be back - I missed you guys
Hey - does this mean Lovejoy will return?

So... did I miss anything?
Could someone summarise why we're over here now, in a few words? I've been offline for a while, just regained access by...

I'm heading down to Tony's, if there's a seat I'll bitch, otherwise I'll marshal.
