  1. my near-side tyre at the front has worn down it's outer edge to the point that it'll have to be replaced soon(running on general grabber at2 235/85/16s).The tracking was done a year ago and I was told it was only just out,but still got charged £50!All balljoints have been replaced,as have railko bushes,no movement in the wheel top and bottom. It does seem to wander very slightly, but I've put that down to radius arm bushes being worn, which I'll do this weekend along with the trailing arm bushes.I removed my steering guard as I felt it was too close to my drag link tube and found it had slightly damaged the clamps on the off-side of the tube...is there any foolproof way of checking if the tracking is out?I'm unwilling to throw this cowboy another £50,but he's the only person I've found who'll look at a defender.I've been told there is a string method, but am unsure how it works.I've run out of ideas as to what else it could be :(

  2. I think if you had the 1.66 t/box,you would be struggling to get over 50mph in a 200tdi.I inadvisedly fitted one a year or so ago to my 110 and the engine I had at the time was screaming its guts out at this speed.I can only think that what you've got is a 2.5 n/a(which I assume was the original engine as supplied to the MOD),which should be capable of 65/70 mph quite comfortably, but not much more :)

  3. wow, that's a lot of money...I was going to say don't forget the collapsible spacer tube, but it's in the kit.Out of interest, can you fit a cross-drilled input gear into any t/box,assuming it has 26 teeth? If so,I'd be spending an extra few quid getting one while ye have it's guts oot on your workbench :)

  4. well,I found out that it's M16x1.5 thread on the disco sender,so I'm going to drill a hole through my old one and retain the outer thread, put a 1/8NPT tap in and screw the VDO one inside...in theory!

I was quite surprised as well, they were helpful enough the other day :)

  5. well that went well..just off the phone to steve parker and they

a)have no idea if the sender is compatible with vdo gauges, and

b)have no idea of the thread measurement of the sender they sent me

the one I took out of my engine is PRC9917(green collar)

does anyone know the thread measurement for this sender,so that I can order the right one to marry up with a VDO gauge? :)

  6. I can never seem to find stuff I'm looking for on e-bay(age!).I'm needing the whole units replacing as the towers that hold the screws are hanging by a thread and the lenses wouldn't look out of place on a dali painting.I'll probably get 4 sidelight units and fit orange chrome bulbs to two of them. :)

  7. my lights, units, lenses all need replacing at the front, but I fancied clear lenses with orange bulbs for my indicators.Paddock sell these(XBD100670),although the lens is set into the unit,so if the lens cracks you have to replace the whole thin. They're also very expensive...same lights as on a late bodied old mini cooper IIRC.Could I just buy four sidelight units(RTC5012),fit the two bottom ones with orange bulbs and save myself £20?Is this even legal?

  8. sorry to revive this thread...have got a temp sensor winging it's way to me from steve parker that'll match both(disco's)engine and my 110's dash.I'd ideally like to have a little more accuracy with the temp than a thick white band and narrow red band as supplied by land rover.Could I fit a TIM water temp gauge(with numbers!!!) with this new sensor or will it only match this particular lr defender gauge? If they are compatible,is it a straight swap using the existing wiring?

    thanks

  9. just an update...led is fitted and looking good...

turbo boost gauge here as well, however the wiring is confusing to me

orange-12v dash lighting(so I plumb in to next door gauge's red wire)

    black-vehicle earth(next door's black wire or bulkhead)

    white-12v ignition switch???

so pardon my electrickery ignorance, but what wire is the ignition switch?
