  1. It turns out that all Defenders have heated seats. I discovered this when I left the window open over the weekend. The seats were soaked so I took them out and put them on the Aga. Come Monday morning I put them back in and drove off. all nice and cosy. all you need is an Aga and he presto; heated seats. well done Land Rover. I can't understand why Land Rover don't mention this in the advertising :-)
  2. Problem all solved. The connector at the controller unit is badly made. One of the wires had pushed back when it was plugged together. There was no connection on the red wire which is the voltage seƱor for the primary battery. thanks for all the help and suggestions. One to watch if you are fitting a T-Max unit. S.
  3. Thanks all for the help. Tiger - Yes, it is def wired up right. There isn't very much for me to get wrong. I agree that the diagram is rubbish.I do hear the big relay clicking in and out every five seconds or so, in time with the controller LED showing connected and disconnected so I know it is really doing it. Eds - Alas, this is too late for me :-/ Dave W. That was also my thought. Either Hysteresis or voltage thresholds with a timer. I could probably build my own, even if I just use a manual switch to link and unlink - I might open up the T-Max box and see what is in there. If there is a pot I might try adjusting that to see if it is just thresholds. I suspect it will just be a pic or Atmel and I won't be able to change anything. It may be that the two batteries are just different voltages. I see the aux battery at 12.8 and the primary just around 12. My concern is that leaving them connected isn't going to be healthy. I don't know so much about these big batteries, particularly Optima... Steve
  4. ...And have some problems. I have a standard starter battery and an Optima Yellow top. The Installation was pretty simple and works apart from with the engine running the T-Max operates the relay linking and unlinking the two batteries continuously. Every 3 to 5 seconds the batteries link and then unlink again the same amount of time later. I'm assuming that this is some sort of threshold problem with the T-Max controller unit (it is the one with the led's showing batter voltage etc.). At the moment I am using the manual link to avoid the problem (by keeping them linked) whilst driving but it's driving me nuts. Has anyone had the same problem and resolved it? Is manually keeping the batteries connected a problem? If I can't fix this I may insert a switch inline in the green wire, the one with the fuse in it to be able to prevent the relay from operating. That way I can manual link or unlink them. Any help or advice much appreciated. Steve
  5. Perhaps you have more holes in the bottom than in the top :-( I have sat in mine to find out where the water is coming in. That was easy, it's everywhere...
  6. so I just filled up my TD5 from a Jerry can and the end of the nozzle wasn't on the spout when I finished, which means it's in my tank somewhere! any suggestions for getting the damn thing out? Steve
