  1. Hi i hope someone can help? I have fitted a 200tdi disco in my defende a few weeks ago. The thing that is worrying me is when I start it, the exhaust fumes smell strong and there is no power. If i leave it warm up it is better but when i pull off there is quite a lot of blue/grey smoke but only when i change gear or slow down!! When the engine is nice and hot every thing is fine and with no smoke. Just today i was driving home down a lane slowly and i noticed that when i was i second or third, when i backed off the throtle there was quite a lot of smoke!!! Soon as i put my foot down the smoke went away. please help.
  2. Nice one cheers. Does it matter which one goes to which front brake? ie would it be the pipe at the end of the master cylinder which goes to the far side front caliper as that being the shortest distance to travel? I have got copper brake lines that i will be able to chop out the old fronts and re-route with new.
  3. Hi guys, Is it possible to fit a Td5 brake servo complete, into my 1989 90? If so what will i have to do? I was told it will fit with no problems and i just connect the pipes. I know that the td5 master cylinder has three pipes coming off it. One for the rear bakes and two for the fronts. My 2.5td master only has two pipes which gets split between the front and back brakes. The rear brake pipe goes into the pressure-regulating valve. Would i need to keep this when fitting the Td5 servo/master? I have had a look under the bonnet of a td5 and did not see a regulating valve! One more thing which pipe goes to which brake caliper? I was told the pipe at the end of the master cylinder goes to the rear brakes.
  4. Funny you should mention that bacause i am getting a vibartion through the steering wheel too!! I have a post going at the moment. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=73940&hl=&fromsearch=1 I will check it out however i have checked the front wheel bearings last wk and although the near side had a slight notch when moved top and bottom, the far side had nothing. And it passed MOT the other wk!! Thanx guys. Much appriciated. I may fix two problems in one.
  5. I got one from Paddocks a few years ago...... It looks good however i havnt wired it up yet!! 1) because i am still trying to work out the best way to do it and 2) It is on the list 'which never ends'!! However it is a bar with 4 lights and was quite reasonable. If anyone knows the best way to wire up this beast let me know.
  6. Well i changed all the calipers when i bought it 4 years ago. All the bleed nipples seem to be working ok as when i bleed them the oil comes out good! I just hope that the servo i have bought off ebay will sort the problem once and for all!!
  7. Thanx m8 ive been told that could sort it so i think ill give it a go. cheers
  8. Oh right, nice 1 thanx for that. May be i don't need a new one then.
  9. No it's still there!! The only things i havnt checked now is the pre load on the front ball swivels, the balancing of the wheels and i think i am going to buy a new steering damper as the one i have took off was a Shi... I mean Britpart and when i pushed it in it stayed in that position! I dont know if that is the norm for a steering damper?? any ideas as to which i should buy? So if i dont find anything that cures it after i have done the rest, then i have a gallon of fuel and a match ready!!
  10. When i brake at a set of lights and if i hold my foot on the pedal it will go to the floor! But when i bleed the brake lines on the drive it holds the presure! Do you think the diaphram has an air leak?
  11. Thanks for the input.... I reconditioned the front and back diffs a few years ago tho i have got some play in the flange/bearing that attatches to the prop. I have had new props front and rear but i have got a 2" lift and the dif does seem to be pitched froward quite a lot. I was thinking of getting the front radius arms with the 3 deg correction as i have bought the rear trailing arms and it did move everything back. ie. the A' frame ball swivel sits better and the castle nut came lose!! (easy fix.) But it's another £200!! I hav'nt done a huge amount of miles since. I am getting new tyres nxt wk so will have them balanced properly then. New panhard last year and all new ball swivels, complete kits. I will check the pre load again when i do the tyres. It has had new disc's, calipers and pads all round with braided hoses........ Like i said i'm at a loss as most things are new. But i will take your advise and go over it all again. There must be something i am missing. Thanx again and any more thoughts are welcome. I just want it to work!!! Lol
  12. I have no brakes even tho i have bled them a thousand times!! I have been told that because i have a disco rear dif with discs, that the original master cylinder and servo is not gonna do the trick. Is this the case? Because i have tried everything, i have bought a TD5 master servo off EBay. Will this just bolt on with just a few changes to the brake lines?
