  1. That'd be a massive rear overhang with a 130 hi-cap style tub. A quick google of some pics and from what I know of my 100" hybrid, the front of a 130 tub looks to be about right - there may even be a bit of a gap between it and the truck cab, which you could fill up with your cut down 90 tub.

Yes I agree with the rear overhand but I’m not building this landy to go off road more for towing and everyday farm use. I had a play on photo shop and this is what im aiming for

  2. I’m about to start building a Defender 100 inch hybrid using RR chassis with a 3.5 v8 on carbs with an LT95 4 speed box. I’m basing it on the 110 hi cap used in the first tomb raider movie “The Cradle of Life" but with a couple of changes. I already have a bulkhead with dash , 90 tub and seat box , wings and front end etc.... But after measuring a mates 130 I think a 130 hi cap tub should fit nicely without any modification, as i plan to cut the 90 tub down to make an extended cab or "king cab" , will this work ?

  3. Side-hinged tailgates have been available from LR for many many years but they may have been for specific models and/or markets and therefore not very common in the UK.

I have had a side-hinged version on my 90 for about 7-years and it is very useful, it is attached to a swingaway spare-wheel carrier and is a very tidy set-up. Once in a blue moon however I want to carry something slightly longer than usual and I have to remove the carrier & tailgate to make space, not a problem as it all comes apart in less than 30-mins but for that occasional trip I wish I had the drop down type.

The hinges on the side-hinged model match those of a full height door so you can swop between the two very quickly and like I said, the swing-away carrier works very well.

Im makeing one out of a defender rear door i had left over from converting from hard top to truck cab. This will mean i can lock the tailgate and with an alloy load cover on will be able to stop things going walkies

  4. I thought it was just a good bit of sunday night entertainment.

It obviously wasn't "green laning" in the sense we know it. Like most TG stunts, it was set up - undoubtedly with land owners' permission. Anyone who thinks otherwise is pretty dumb. Just take another look at the continuity errors - they did it several times.

Anyone who tries to copy that would have the landowner prosecuting them for trespassing on their land. Anyone driving like that on a green lane would crash and burn pretty quick. But that's no different to any other TG stunt / driving. It's a bit of light relief, not a driving instructional programme.

Other than the intro to the piece, there was no correlation between what we do "green laning" and what they did.

Made a good point about the lightness of the little motor. No match for a LR at the end of the day, but pretty impressive for what it is.

The wet grass catching JC out though made me smile.

a negertive rant at the hunting ban too is never a bad thing , couldnt stop smileing when he ended up nose down in a ditch tho

  5. As ever brilliant entertainment... but yes it probably played right into the hands of the anti's. particularly when Jezza charged down the hedges. :o :o

Interesting how capable that little Terrios was though (assuming the absence of any 'staging' which one can never be sure about with TG)

Yes i was impressed by it too , even with what looked like road tyres and yes brilliant entertainment

  6. Hi i am just watching the feature on "greenlaneing" on top gear in the Daihatsu terios with Clarkson , i feel that the presenters have given the wrong impression about responsible greenlaneing , off roading in general. Responsible off roading is not rallying around the countryside with no consideration for the environment , and the fact that is was a Disco 3 filming it. What do others think ?

  7. Purely aesthetic. The general concensus from the D90 Source guys was the IG ogo was WAAAAY too OTT. (FWIW I agree) IIRC there were issues with the speaker housing. The IG guy took it on the chin, asked what changes prospective buyers would like to see and agreed to go off and implement them in a 'new improved' design.

they look like they are on to something but from reading comments from other forums in not sold , i will try and get the genuien land rover ones or make some out of alloy plateing.

  8. And, like mine were.... as they'd been in there for a few years they were well and truly covered in road grime and poo, and rusted to bits.

one hacksaw blade later, out it came. :(

Got um out now with 3 extensions, wd40 , allot of swearing and a metal bar. thing is iv pulleld the dam reverseing light connecters out , to dark too see where from now :angry2:

  9. i was partcially annoyed that i had to do a trailer test. I past my test in sept 97 and the law changed jan 97. I have to say though, that it was worthwhile, if i hadnt had done the test then i probably wouldnt have put in the practice - and i am sure the practice has got me out of some tight situations. At the moment i dont use the trailer much.

The test isnt too difficult either. although does depend on who the examiner is. my first test i had a afternoon appointment and it was a subitiute examiner, he was a nice bloke but was quite strict. The retest i had the head examiner, first thing in the morning. he said that because the guy was a subititute had to be strict as it was how they are assessed when it comes to being allocated jobs. The head examiner, talked most of the time and at the end of the test, he said he felt perfectly comfortably with me driving- although i didnt do anyting diffferent. not sure how true all the information is but that was my situation.

the hardest part of the test, the reverse manoverve - find a car park and mark it out and spend time doing it.

anyway glad i have it/done it

Yer the test doesn’t sound too bad, I’m thinking of taking it over the Easter period. Not to worried though as I have been driving tractors and straw trailers, landys and cattle trailers on and off the road for years

  10. Hey, i'm also 20 and its time for renuwal. I have a 1999 td5 van and last year it was £1500 3rd party F&F and this year i have been quoted 960, But i was looking on the internet and have found one for £460 and thats from Gladiator so maby you should try them. That is only with 1 years no claim.

hi well im currentally insured on a 1998 300tdi CSW for £1400 full comp , 7 seats etc.. , but i getting qwotes for my 200tdi truck cab got qwoted £1200 for just 3 party bloody madness !!! ill try Gladiator

  11. My passenger door on my defender 90 wont close, it looks in line on the striker plate to the lock yet still wont close. Looking at the line on the body the door seems to have sunk (i think), what is the best way to sort this to loosen the hinges on the bulkhead or on the door? There is markings on top of the catch which seems to indicate the door is to low, as the last time i opened the door it seemed to jam

    Any advice would be appreciated
