  1. Thanks for the links very helpfull .What I need now is some dimensional drawings of the timing tools so I can get some made locally as machine shop work is quite cheap in Poland.
  2. I could never let my other half see this she'd have me in the paint section of B&Q hideous
  3. Hi All Cam change done and all went well .Before the change decided to give the exhaust a full check and found a leak on the LHS cat but went ahead with the change any way .Lucky I did because the chain and gears were well worn The rockers were very dirty and showing signs of wear on the shafts so thats next on the list although wished I had bought them in for this time The cam showed less signs of wear than I expected but the cam followers were shot completly photos to follow. and the reassembly went of with out any problems The cam installed is a pipercam Torquemax and I can definetly notice an improvement on acceleration and shifting along with a lower RPM at cruising speeds so well worth taking the time to do it .But all this has done is wet my appetite to get a donor motor and do a complete rebuild with a possible power upgrade .I think I start some looking around for a donor and see if there is anything available.
  4. Only good in an ambush from the front. If I remember correctly there's no armour on the back end so bet there would be a fight for the front seats ,will check on my next trip and get some more photos .There are also lot of old Series 2 running about in varying states of repair with some of the weirdest breakdown hooks on the back I have ever seen but all still running.
  5. Hi All Recently had a fault on my 2000 2.5 V6 with very heavy shifting.Made some phone calls and the generals concess was a complete autobox stripdown and possible replacement at ridicules prices .So decided to investigate myself and found some really good manuals with possible failure .Long story short ordered a replacement line pressure solonoid for £70 and hey presto shes running and shifing beautiful.Total repair time 2hrs insitu.A bit of a tight squeeze but with a bit of patience the result speaks for it self.Next on the list is to do the timing belts but the timing tools cost a fortune so looking into a home made option does any one out there have some dimensions on the tooling required?
  6. Spotted this defender in Port Harcourt ,Nigeria on my last rotation
  7. She is running quite well at the moment but with the usual tick tick tick and low on pwer , all exhaust gaskets ok and compression down on No 7 I decided to do the cam as she is currently sitting at 270K so I think well due for the change .Results of the compression test as follows Cyl 1-181 psi Cyl 2-188 psi Cyl 3- 174 psi Cyl 4- 174 psi Cyl 5- 188 psi Cyl 6-174 psi Cyl 7-145 psi Cyl 8- 174 psi I am hoping that No 7 is down on compression because the cam lobe has worn down and its not a valve but will find out soon enough I have no past history on any maintenance done so would rather do it all now and keep the wife happy with her run around. For the gasket I have some tiger seal which works really well. Its a US import into Poland and runs on a closed loop LPG which was installed three years ago (Probably washed the valves clean as a whistle) .Her saving grace is there is not a single spot of rust on her and is generally in good shape so worth the investment.
