  1. Yeh, I know. But its the priciple. That key complete probably costs no more than £3.00 to produce. That's the whole assembly including immob chip. A set of L/R brake drums would have cost me £500.00 to replace. It's a lump of turned metal probably made in the same factory that sells them at £60.00 a pair. There's being ripped off and there's REALLY being ripped off. I was actually considering purchasing a Freelander 2. Not any more.
  2. Hi all. I managed to lose my spare ignition key for my 04 Freelander. I have spoken to a few lock and key specialists that provide replacement and reprogrammed keys. Well they have all told me the same story. I have to go to a dealership. Well I managed to get a key of E-**y and thought I could just go to Landrover and ask for a transponder chip. I love the answer I got, "You have to buy the key as a complete assembly sir at a cost of £102.00" Fair enough I thought. He then continued to explain "It will also cost you another £40.00 to have the key chipped to your car". I then proceeded to tell him what I thought of his price, well not his price, Landrover's price. OK I thought, I have also broken the key ring loop on my existing ignition key, can I have a replacement plastic casing. "No sorry sir, you have to purchase a complete key at a cost of £102.00". Well it was at this point that I lost it and left. I e-mailed Landrover explaining how much I enjoyed my Freelander 1, up until the point when I needed a replacement key. I explained that the key is made up of 3 components (blade, casing, transponder), all of which come from seperate suppliers, and that I should be able to purchase any component seperately. I am now waiting for Landrover's response, hopefully the one I am looking for.
  3. hopefully the one I am looking for.
  4. Hi folks, Just ordered myself some new after market brake drums for my Freelander. Mine were looking a bit tatty with rust bubbles etc. I took them off to clean up but after about an hour gave up, so decided to order some on-line from a supplier. I was given the option of Original Landrover or after market.Imagine my shock and almost heart failure when I was quoted £300+ per original landrover drum!! Are they gold plated?! I went for the after market option at £60.00 a set. Its a blinking brake drum (done my own editing). Nothing technical on it, so why the huge price?
  5. Got it, I was trying to pull on the wrong part of the plug. Well its all fitted now and what a difference. More than happy. Just got to check the fuel consumption. I am doing the 1/4 tank test. 1/2 - /1/4 tank. Before any changes to filters and valves I was looking at 90 miles to the 1/4 tank. After changing filters and valves I was up 95-100 miles to 1/4 tank. Now with Synergy fitted I am over 100 miles. That is on level black 5 on the Synergy settings. Don't want to do the full tank test as it's just too expensive to fill. Still got more runs to do to confirm. But overall I am more thatn happy.
  6. Will give them a call tomorrow, I only fitted it early this evening. And yes its for the TD4
  7. Hi I'm Richard Got a 04 Freelander SE TD4 I'm near Wellingborough in Northants.
  8. How easy are these to fit. Do you need ramps or can it be done on axle stands? I'm not a mechanic but i don't mind getting my hands dirty, its just that I don't have ramps.
  9. Ref my last reply, sorry its the key itself that's going to cost £157.00. The remote fob I will sort at a later date.
  10. OK, I got myself one of those Synergy 2 Modules. Plugged in the Tuning upgrade side and wanted to do the MAF sensor plug as well but can't the the thing out. Well I left the MAF plug and refitted everything I took of to fit MAF plug and Tuning plug and took it out for a drive. First impressions? Impressed, very impressed. Took it for a drive on normal A roads and then on to dual carriageway. The drive is so much smoother and I now don't have time to read the first 10 pages of the paper while waiting for speed to pick up. If I hadn't watched the speedo I would have been doing 100+ no problem. You the variuos settings and I have only used black 5 (high torque, high power). Which is the best setting for better fuel consumption or is that based on how you drive. I don't rag the car. Its main use is commuting and occasionaly pulling our horse trailer (the main reason for Synergy as it had no guts pulling off with trailer on the back) Anyway, back to the MAF plug. I've had a look and there is a clip either side of the plug. Looking at them you pull them out to remove plug, or am i wrong. Either way it ain't coming out. Anybody got any ideas? I want to get this thing fitted.
  11. Thanks for that I will have a look. The snot'o'gram is being written as well.
  12. Hi guys, New to the forum. I have recently acquired a Freelander TD4(04). Got the car off my missus as she now has a company car. Since buying the car a couple of years ago we have always been missing a key. Well today I popped in to Landrover to order a new spare key. The guy on the desk took my details and checked the V5. He then proceeded to tell me that the key would cost £102.00. Fare enough I thought. He then went on to explain that I would have to pay another £55.00 to have the key "chipped" to my car. I chuckled because I actually thought he was joking. He then proceeded to explain no he wasn't taking the tiddle. £157.00 for a replacement key, you are having a laugh!!! I know there is a little plastic "chip" in the key fob and I also know that there is no way that thing costs £55.00. Was he taking the tiddle or am I going to get stung for a replacement key? Landrover are about to receive an e-mail from a what used to be proud Freelander owner. Richard
