  1. We run a Range Rover lse box which I here is a bit stronger than a normal RRC/Disco 1 V8 box. The important bit is you've got to have a good oil cooler and keep it cool !

    Jon

The LSE box is the best of the Classic boxes with out doubt acording to a very well know race gearbox builder the first is lower as well which was news to me, I new the oil pump and oil ways were a better set system than the normal 3.9,4.0lt set up.

I prefure auto by a long way but its not without its failings with speed you have to hone you driving style and know what your doing and you can get it very wrong very easily and power slids and drifting takes a bit more skill I think with the auto also as in there no good in hot contires without the correct spec coolers or racing in desert conditions and if you like wading don't get water in it, but nothing is perfect.

I do brake on hills but that to drop engine revs not stop the car (I drive faster than most) you can select first, second or third on a hill and it does give control like a manual so that argument is for those who dont' know autos

for what your wanting to do, it will be fine..

  2. Have you ever been asked if you had a windscreen replace, I havent and my disco had three it didn't affect mine. If you had three in the same year it might be a little iffy.

I had a result we changed the screen on a 110 and when asked if it was heated we said yes and then when fitted I bought a wiring kit and now my 1991 110 has a heated screen. (the misses checked and there was no extra charge)

  3. Why?

I can just about understand ther body mods. The engine? I know the k-series is prone to head gasket issues, so, ok, a rover 2.0. but removing the 4 wheel drive and converting it to two wheel drive?

    MADNESS!

The swap is supposed to be fairly strait forward considered what LR drivers are prepared to do to there cars

I wanted to put a Tomcat (2.0li turbo) in my freelander racer but it was too fiddly to get the gearbox to fit the engine for me and pushed it out of production class.

Not saying I would want it. I love the way a freelander drives and on country lanes once they have been wound up I can out run any rep mobile the big sports Skoda’s are the best fun, when they can't keep up with a old S reg Freelander....you can't do it with the prop off it slides all over the place and its balance is all wrong it becomes unpredictable in 2wd

  4. It has been beautifully done but why do all that work to a old £750 Freelander.... I saw in Kent a P38 in black lowered and same thing done and had the obligatory bunch of hoodies in it which again made me smile but the P38 is a top line car and has a V8 running it so its got pedigree but a freelander is alright inside and all right to drive but not all that..

The P38 did look very cool, totally useless as a car as it couldn’t have towed and the speed bumps in the Ashford shopping centre were proving tricky for the driver but as custom stuff goes it was well thought out and look to be a very good standard of work.

  5. Hi - welcome to the forum - comp safari is basically off road racing around a pre laid out course against the clock. Before you start a minimum no. laps are declared.

Various clubs have different classes based on cc, wheelbase etc - all in all it is like driving the car you stole without the blue lights!!! Some clubs lay out fast stage rally type courses, others lay out more traditional trials sections linked together - mileage anything from 2-10 miles per lap and 8-12 laps per day.

Check out AWDC and NORC clubs

    Chris Bowler

Comp safari is load of fun and can be really cheap to start you can buy and prep a old RR or Disco ready to race at entry level for less than the cost of a new 8274.

Challenging is also loads of fun but if your not up for wading round up to your waist in cold muddy water and like some adrenaline then comp safari is for you.

look up some on You tube and search comp safari and you will see what goes on.

  6. There is a reason for that Jules and myself did a deal with ken ( the farmer ) about 10 year or more ago that we would pay him more for a day hire if there were no bikes there at all. Worked and made sure he kept the bikes away

It was more like 15yrs ago I agreed that with Ken to pay a extre £50 to stop the bikes piriod and the Wessex boys got the right hump with me because the price went up but the bikes went away when the 4x4's were there.

last I heard which was a while ago the Watercress line chaps were having a go about the site mud runs over flowing onto the railway sideings and the risk of the erosion under the tracks cause alot of conserne but I don't know if thats been solved or not so its worth a phone call first. the steam Train lot were getting very heavy with Ken if I recall.

If it's still a problem I offered my help before to Ken (I'm a Civil Eng) and I will happerly again if needed, a Forum site repair day would be a better plan and be seen to give something back am I wrong.

  7. I seem to recall JF saying somewhere that the door angle is deliberate, so it's less likely to get caught up in the scenery. The Mark 1 doors hinged on the windscreen part of the A pillar, so the doors move upward when opened.

It should be a simple matter to make replacement check straps (it's a steel linkage) to open the door further - I've never tried though, I've never found it a problem.

    Some more pics up now.

    Dave

You set Vic off she was on the web site last night looking up what we would get as I wanted a 5dr and F8 is funky and very game consel type look. I managed to stopper porting a email to get a quote

  8. ...and at the time a 50% cheaper fuel with the same economy was the way to go. Now that cost break has gone :(

Not quite gone it's a shed load cheper then running it on Petrol and just about cheaper then Heavy Oil sorry diesel.

Ringwood sumerfrild is around 68p so its not all bad

  9. I like the 110 and the colour

not so keen on the black arches or roof but nice otherwise

I'm missing some of the point arent I

I'm liking Nige's change for the long known County spec to chavy spec...

Having said that thats what the market of people buying new cars wants so thats what LR will make I'm all for a bit of updating I don't agree with all of it but ho hum

  10. Moved on the LPG fueled Cherokee a few months back due to the rising cost and replaced it with the TD5 90. My weekly fuel costs have dropped by 20% (when I'm in the office)! LPG prices do seem to be whatever the filling station can get away with. Locally it is about 75p/litre. 5 years ago it was 40p.

Yes but 5 years ago petrol was 81p

My two local Shell's are now at 81p

  11. Think your local filling station might be taking the pee - my local one has gone up from 59.9 to 64.9 in the last 4 or 5 months, not had to fill up for a while though, so don't know what it is with the VAT increase...

    I do 25k a year in my 4lt P38

I fill up everyday with about £20 of LPG and when I started in April it was 62p on the A31 summerfeild.

December it jumped from 62.9 to 64.9 then 66.9 then 68.9 during Dec but the BP next to work was around 72.9 last yr but was 85.9 in Poole this morning (I do have a 10p off with BP )

My local station which I rearly use as its not on my route for work was a Shell at 80p

Yes the wife car is desel and I nearly took a photo in the way home as Unleaded was 135.9 and desail was 139.9 at the shell on the A31 in the new forest

  12. Sorry to be negative but my completely standard 20yr old 110 3.5 V8 towed a fully loaded 40t artic a mile up hill backwards on sheet ice. She was a little hot when I got to the top and unhocked and the snow plouge took over. The driver had been trying to get up the hill for two hours so it was a tad slippery

Your underestamating the ability of your truck.

  13. I am over the moon with my KM2's but they are the first set of MT's I've owned so not really an informed opinion. Miles better in all circumstances than the previous rubbish I had on.

I bought a set of BFG MK2's 35 x 12.50 , 15 ( similar to the Baja Claw) at Billing and they look the part but the truck is off the road so I have not had a chance to trye them out in anger. there much more aggressive than the old MT in the same size.

you can come and have a good look if you want so you can see before you buy
