  2. ill be buying off the shelve then.....all i want to do is do away with the disk brakes even just the fronts...had various defenders dont want another....
  3. Heard the other day that someone has used the front and rear disk brakes/axles from a disco on their series 3...... Is their a technical thread anywhere that shows how???????????cheers
  4. how is it modified to fit?????just sorted an engine......you say engine mounts need to be custom made...by that you mean the ones on the chassis?????and reuse the ones on the block???? cheers stu....

Hi peeps...........in the very near future am going to be fitting a 300tdi engine into a series 109 2.25 petrol ex mili........... im aware that the box isnt up to it etc etc... but driven carefully they can last for years as someone i know has demonstrated with theirs,,,, Really need to start getting the bits ill need together...i.e the right bellhousing etc and engine mounts and the likes....any help in A B C For me would be greatfully received as it,ll be a first for me on my own doing something like this....cheers

Thats a hell off a trip...puts mine to shame.........must admit ama bit worried about fading brakes....was bad enough in a 110 with disks on the front......had those catch on fire a few times ,,then braking was like being on ice....Maybe i just need a crash course on overhauling a 2.25 petrol before i go i.e.carbs and dizzys and things......i am use to a diesel starting running then stopping.....although one year on a track near briancon in france it got so cold the diesel struggled to start...

Ive been over every year since but the last two times on a different path to m and m and gm.....not sure on the dates yet????infact did i see you briefly last year i was in my 110 camel and my sis in the 90....met the tombraider club at gran bosco before i headed off???? Still not sure on dates for this year??
  9. hi michele......i know M and M me and you have met and we share the same hair cut.....infact i carried your 90s roof to gran bosco for you on my 110 one year....we also met stephan from swiss........ (stuart and lisa) I just recalled they had some trouble last year with theirs and it didnt run for almost a week????? was hopeing to go and meet the german down their end off augustish??? ohh and shes a series 3 justy had a new gearbox and reconed engine and shes only got 50,000kms on the clock...with twin tanks.....
  10. suppose its the fact i know nothing off the 2.25 petrol engine/fuel consumption/how they act at altitude with the lack off air/and how they cope with hours off going up and up and up......all the other years ive been going ive always gone with a group and with a tdi.......

IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING A 109 2.25 PETROL EX MILI....................WAS GOING TO BE BUYING A DEFENDER BUT FELL FOR THIS.....TROUBLE IS I WAS DUE TO BE GOING TO THE ALPS IN THE DEFENDER WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEM.......HAVING NEVER OWNED A 109 2.25 PETROL IMA LITTLE NERVOUS TAKING HER.......AM I JUST BEING PARANOID,,,,ANYONE DRIVEN ONE THAT FAR ON HERE BEFORE.................

Been looking at nissan safari 4.2s but the one i really liked was 24volt and for some reason im a little put off...id imagine parts wouldbe hard to come by ..not to mention pricey........the toyota cruiser seems the choice at the mo....but i still prefer the landy....why ohh why didnt they build a standard bigger engine....
  13. was just talking to a landrover mechanic once who said that because of the extra cylinder im asuming it gets hotter on the manifold which causes them to crack...he said hes changed a lot??????i suppose i could just go to a scrap yard and get some spare.......are they the same on the disco td5?? was thinking of a 110 with four comfy forward facing seats...or six if theyll fit.....like theyve got in the new defenders.... Whats most likely to give you problems on a td5????was reading a while ago that if you take a few sensors and things with you that are likely to fail while your out in the middle off nowhere youll be fine????cant for the life remember where i read it....Maybe on an overland forum or something....... Someone i knew once took a td5 to italy and it failed half way up a 10,000ft track.....they had to turn it round and tow it down.....when getting it eventually to a garage they were told that the fuel pump had failed by the diagnostics... a lot of money later with a new pump it went again.....when they rang a landrover helpline they were told to do something with the ignition....like switch it on and off a number off times??????on further diagnosis they found that a switch or connecter was loose or dusty.....bloody electrics.... Also the diagnostic gear is cheaper to buy now i beleive?????

I just not long ago sold a 200tdi camel 110.....which obviously had a few extras on it weight wise....and i fitted a disco tranfer box too....but it had no headroom in the back and you looked out of the alpine lights which wouldnt be nice on a long drive...and it just felt wheezy on the hills.....and especially when you got to any altitude......imagining that with a trailer and passengers......its gona be a struggle....and that was spending most time in low box..... The 90 300tdi van back being lighter was very nice and didnt struggle.... SO was thinking of soft topping a 110 300tdi putting some comfy forward facing seats in the back so youd have a nice view out the sides going up those tracks and roads and it would be a lot lighter... ??

Hello their.........have just sold my 300tdi 90 with a view to upgrading to a toyota landcruiser or nissan patrol ........But to be honest i am struggling to sway away from landrover.........(300tdi van back) Before making up my mind i just need to know a few things........... I am thinking off spending more time in a place i love over in the alps.....and as most know their are lots of steep hills.......I intend to be taking some walkers to specific places to walk(funnily enough) and will be needing something to take all the gear leaving space in the vehicle for passengers...so a trailers in order(sankey or rapier)....... Wanting to get something with some more comfort and power to take all this i thought of the toyota and nissan......which are very powerful trucks.....able to tow and carry just about anything...... now i am aware that the towing power in a landrovers about the same..but pulling that weight up very steep hills all day the landy may struggle??????????By the way i am thinking of the 300tdi as the td5 seems to have issues with cracking manifolds and the 300tdi seems to be bullet proof...... So can anyone tell me that i am wrong for a start...... next if i am wrong and you think that a defender 300 tdi would be able to cope.......what safe power upgrades can you do to a 300tdi without compromising the reliability to much..... thanks
  16. Hi peeps having always had defenders and series i now nothing about freelanders.......My wifes decided to sell her car and buy a diesel freelander....can anyone tell me for between 3-4000 what to get??????? and what not.................cheers stu.
  17. also thought i could put a small rear facing mirror on the farside corner to use for that poxy blind spot with the van back...as ive never been keen on those little triangular windows....
  18. sort of remember seeing one on autotrader once with big wheels.....and spots under the rack....thought it looked good and different at the time.....although for me its not so much the look but the extra usage....

  23. Selling my 300 tdi 90 r reg with 114,000 miles van back.....but really cant decided how much their really worth nowadays?????? need an idea of a price with or without the mot due.... have to sell cant afford to keep it anymore....
