  1. is their a lot of wiring involved e.g wiring looms etc....or is it a case of just getting power to certain things??
  2. is it possible to buy an old V8 130 and fit a td5 engine without a mountain of hassles???
  3. I do spend time in the alps most summers and do intend to go further....but i would just love some more power and something that goes up hills without changing down to much...and a bit more everyday user.......ive been told the td5 isnt so scarey anymore...
  4. the last strange whining /whistling noise i had on my 110 sounded like a police siren....was the turbo failing....all i can suggest...(i may get corrected)is to take the pipe of the front of the turbo and grab the nut in the middle of the fins and wiggle...it should have a couple off mm play i beleive but a lot like mine is bad.....Also look for markings around the inside of the casing where the fin spins...and silver paste ...caused by a little oil and aluminium filings.... that was the only symtom i had of it failing.....cheers
  5. should i swap my camel 110 200tdi for a td5????110 .....i just cant make up my mind....help
  6. genuine i beleive...were £180...to wet to go look at the mo...not much i can do about it now anyway but wait and see what happens in italy...
  7. could be that i suppose???the pump is off a 2/4 petrol ....somat to do with the left hand drive conversion....i think like i say when i gets back from me hols will change back to rhd....
  8. thing is both pumps have been brand new..odds of both having the same problem are slim??just thought it may have been a trait of the 2/4 pump as it has a longer neck than the 200tdi one???? all i know is when i get back from italy shes going back to rhd...
  9. could it be where the pump and box are so close together it gets extra pressure?????their for pushing out fluid??
  10. does anyone know why ive had two power steering pumps in my 200 tdi defender and both have had a run of fluid on the neck just behind the pulley after 100 or so miles??? is this normal....both pumps are brand new...the only difference is the 110 is a left hand drive and is using a 2/4 petrol p/s pump???please can someone shed some light as im of to italy in a few days....
  11. off to the italian alps in two weeks so i think ill change the belt..probably a safer bet..
  12. definatly oil..does it matter if it a 200/300tdi...mine the later..
  13. just removed my wading plugs after 8,000 miles on a new timing belt kit...and a small puddle of oil came out the timing hole....is this normal to get a bit of oil or should i replace the seal and belt???
  14. i know the truck is heavy being a camel trophy 110 with full rollcage winch roofrack etc etc ...could it just be the weight?
  15. Any more suggestions???its almost like a massive pause before it goes but only in 1st mainly
  16. why is my 110 200tdi annoyingly slower than usual when pulling away it seems to die for a second before turbo kicks in even in reverse almost till its gona stop???? also a clunking from the front when turning slow???could this be down to cv joints or somat???
  17. thanks les.....already had been out and done what you said bar the grease....didnt think of that....i remembered when i undone the nut that it wasnt actually madly hard to undoo...so i done up as madly un hard as it was to undoo....will give her a run tommorow and see if my undooing doing up mentaly hardness has done the trick ....cheers...if it fails ill just set fire to the truck and get a new one....
  18. just caused myself more problems...had a leak on the salisbury rear axle and having never done a seal change before undone it all took it all apart without marking anything....d,ohhhh.....so know it seems i may have to get the diff rebuilt or replace the axle.... its all in another post....im getting stressed with landrovers...
  19. ok so ive worked out what i should have done...but i didnt...know i have returned home with a new flange kit(stc 4457)..which consists off...A NEW FLANGE WITH A DUST COVER FITTED TO IT.....A NEW METAL RETAINER WITH BUILT IN SEAL......WASHER AND NUT..... know forgive me im not amazingly mechanicaly minded but can someone give me an abc to fitting it back in...or would it be easier to take it to a garage....Their was a big washer up against the bearing would that need to be reffited with my new seal kit....cheers stu
  20. yes i already have the flange off the retainer out and the big washer out ...just leaving the bearing showing...obviously ive gone about it like i would normally(bull in a china shop)and ripped it all apart and learn as i put it all back together...but surely when they built the diff they just put in the necessary bits then done it up with a torque wrench????(the sensible thing to have done would have been to mark it though) I just would have thought that these days you could do away with crush tubes and leather washers etc for a thick rubber oil seal and a washer to hold it???simular to the V8 diff ive done before??
  21. changing the seal on my 110 salisbury diff nose.....taken of the flange and the metal retainer and the leather seals and a washer....my question is can you get a normal rubber seal and flat retainer know or do i have to buy another kit consisting of more leather seals????
  22. i managed to get a camel trophy 110 cheap at 6,000 thats has receipts in excess of 40,000 for various work some of the receipts are yet to be translated from spanish...as thats where the truck lived for eight years..since i have owned her(2 months)i have replaced the fuel injection pump, done the cam belt, power steering pump, new turbo, and a transfer box...now hopefully just a new diff nose seal and tranfer box out seal....with only 4 weekends to go not only am i running out of money but also out of time... i keep telling myself its all worth it...but for some reason i still keep thinking of buying one of those 80 series toyota landcruisers
  23. i know what your saying...shes had new clutch hydraulics before i bought the truck so gona spend a bit of time checking its adjusted and bled properly first.....the 90 has been checked on the hydraulics front shes just started juddering a bit in first gear so im just a bit nervous....just thought it wouldnt do any harm to take the kit and also for future reference.....cheers for the replys.
  24. i am taking two landies too italy this year for my hols....am a little unsure of the clutches in both..... are the clutches in a 200tdi defender and a 300tdi defender the same if i buy one clutch kit just incase???????
