  1. yes i was well chuffed when i found that out, another revelation after i bought it was that a new chassis had been fitted 8 years ago, not bad for an £800 s3 bought blind of ebay!

  2. i assumed the ballast resistor is the small block adjacent to the coil, getting around 12v at the coil + anyway so it must be bypassed even if there is another in the loom, also tried the 12v direct from battery with no success but getting to the stage where we have tried so many things we could have created another fault, can't tell you how many times we've checked it and then forgotten to put the rotor arm back on  !!!!

  3. makes interesting reading this, my friend just bought a series3 109 2.25 petrol (well thats what it says on the tax book) but it's a rangy cut down 88" chassis with all the rangy axles, steering, engine & gearbox, a defender front and the only series bits are the doors, window and back tub. Best of all it is a 1976 so it's not even tax free!

so he's now looking for a scrap range rover, preferably pre 73 ;)

  4. cheers, i knew it was a bit different and not the original 1972 engine, and someone had suggested a 110 engine and maybe even a 2.5 but i knew it wasn't quite pokey enuff for that

  5. does anyone know what engine i have in my series 3 - the number on it is 11H03451 0 (but its a bit hard to make out on the block), i know it has been changed as the number in the tax book is 90126130A

  6. had a wee peek over at chris perfect but at £478 :o for the full kit i think i'll give it a miss, if i was driving the series every day it'd be worth it but i'm only using for off roading.

And who would pay nearly £800 for power steering!!!

  7. friend of mine has a 3.5 carb which ran for about a mile after he bought it, restarted once an hour later then cut again and hasn't fired up since (about 2 weeks now), previous owner insists it always started on the button!

getting a very weak spark at the plugs and the coil, have changed points, condensor, dizzy cap, coil, ht leads with no success.

    any ideas?

  8. so just to add to the dilema i see i now have to decide on what type of parabolics to fit, sod that, i think i'll stick with the standard springs and buy my wife new curtains with the money i'll save (as if :) )
