  1. I had exactly the same problem as I only needed the male part of the plug, tried a few places, even took the plug apart to see if I could just get the pins but had no luck so when I was in the scrappy for something else I picked one up from there,be interested to see if you do get any other replies because its a common problem ,so it may well happen to me again
  2. Hi all, just found both the wires have snapped at the connector on my HDC switch but unsure of how to reconnect them. The switch on the gear stick has a Blue wire and a Black wire going to it,but there is a white wire and a lilac?purple wire that have come off and need to be solderedback into the crimps.Does it matter which one goes to which,i.e white should connect to Blue or doesnt it matter? Thanks
  3. This might be a dumb question but my sons 98 xedi has got poor fuel consumption, averaging 26 mpg which is mostly made up of 30 miles a day round trip to work, mostly A road and a bit of dual carriageway so not urban.Ive read up on here about putting in Wynns diesel treatment, changing the air filter ,checking tyre pressures etc which we are doing this weekend but I keep reading about the EGR,which when cleaned or blanked off seems to have a good affect. My question is that most posts say it is for TD4 engines so would my sons have one or not? Thanks again for you patient answers. Jon
  4. Thanks for all the replies.I will work my way through them all and will come back with the fix (hopefully)!!
  5. Ive searched the forum to try and find an answer but cant find one that sounds the same as the problem we've got. My son and I both have Freelanders but his has now developed a problem in that when he turns the key,all the lights on the dash come on,the stereo works, the fuel pump can be heard to hum but there is no cranking. If he releases the key and turns it again it usually cranks over and fires up immediately. It doesnt make any difference whether he uses the fob or key to unlock it soI dont think its an immobiliser issue. There was a beeping noise from inside the car but after reading a couple of posts that suggested changing the battery in the fob would stop this we hoped that it may also help with the starting issue but it has made no difference.I ts not causing a major issue at the moment as it nearly always starts at the 2nd attempt but he is staring a new apprenticeship in a couple of weeks so would really like to get it more reliable. Sorry I should add that his is a 3 door '98 diesel. thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. Jon
  6. Many thanks for the reply,I knew you had to allow air bags to discharge any stored electrical charge but wasnt too sure whether the same applied to the seat.
  7. I need to change the drivers seat on my sons 98 3 door Freelander as the cable that works the latches for the tilt has snapped.Ive sourced a 2nd hand seat but my question is "What do I have to do about the seat belt tensioner"this is the explosive bit that locks the seatbelt in an accident.canI just unplug the old seat and plug the new one in or should leave it for a while to discharge and if so how long for?
  8. Hi everyone,My first post on here so please be patient I recently bought an 02 reg TD4 HSE which has a slightly annoying issue.Whenever Im driving it with anyone sat in the back drivers side seat there is a knocking noise from around either the side where the seatbelt goes or under/behind the seat.My son says it feels like the seat moves slightly when it knocks but I have checked that the screws are secure and they seem OK.Is there something else I should look for please? The second issue is with my sons 1998 XEDi 2 door and the problem is that the front drivers seat will not release. The handle moves OK but wont move the seat.Im only guessing but is the cable likely to have broken and is this an easy fix. Im pretty good with spanners and tools having renovated a 2 classis minis ,but this is my first time owning Freelanders (my son sold his one of the minis to buy his freelander after being impressed with mine!!) any help on either issue would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. Thanks Jon
