  1. Really nice to see a new take on the power steering fitment which doesn't involve moving the front crossmember - you have to hand it to the guy for thinking that one through! Thanks Snagger for following it up. I'd just need to find a drop arm which is the right length - I'm sure the ALRC regs still don't permit cut & welded steering parts. Cheers
  2. Thanks for the replies. Fitting a P38 box outside the chassis isn't an option as it will almost certainly foul if the vehicle goes back to being used as a trialler so I'll certainly take a look at Soren Frimodt's thread. There's something unusual in the lightweight featured in the magazine though because the box doesn't appear to sit with it's face flat against the inner chassis rail and I'm really intrigued. If Snagger could get some photos or a link to them I'd be very interested to see them. Cheers guys
  3. Didn't the military engines which would have used the triple pulley used a different timing cover & water pump to the civilian models?
  4. Not wishing to detract from any of the original post but........ I'm looking at the various options of fitting power steering to Series 3 which I used to use for RTVs (and hope to use again) so this post is obviously of interest but I bought the April Classic Land Rover Magazine last week and found an article on a Lightweight restoration which had included the fitting of a P38 steering box. Unusually the box has been fitted inside the chassis in the area of the original steering relay. The article isn't very detailed and the only photo isn't particularly helpful. but the box appears to be mounted diagonally in the angle created by the inner chassis rail and front crossmember. Anyone got any more information or ideas on this?
  5. We've a late 2002 facelifted Discovery TD5 which is good both mechanically and bodily (plus the wife loves it). Sadly the same can't be said of the chassis which is likely to need major repairs for it's forthcoming MOT. It isn't viable (cost/time/facilities) to completely re-chassis the vehicle and I've read 'on some forum somewhere' about a company in the Kendal area which makes a decent job of replacing sections of the rear chassis. If I'm not mistaken they're classic car (Mini?) restorers but searches bring up no results. Does anything ring a bell with anyone? Cheers
  6. Excuse the lack of introduction.... don't know if the attached will help at all. I'm thinking along the same lines at the moment and this is a pic I took at Billing - although this is a purpose made 88" leaf sprung Richards chassis using a Stage 1 front crossmember. The measurement from the centre of the upper shock mounting to the bottom left PAS mounting bolt was 9.125 inches. Perhaps you'll post you experience in fitting (particularly If you go for a standard LR/RR box). Cheers Russell
