  1. From memory it was 5%, it was whatever Nige had set it to , I only changed it to zero when it was overdriving the injectors.

    Tuning, I was the first time but after that I reloaded the base map and then didn't have the laptop connected and it still played up.

    As it is now, for the first hour or short trips it runs great, good power and easily spins the wheels pulling out junctions and in the wet in a straight line. On the motorway it'll pull well for a good while and then gradually lose power until it misfires when you ask for some acceleration, a bit like a coil failing (I've already tried spare ones). It gets really bad once you pull off the motorway and back into normal traffic, eventually you have to stop of a minute and let it cool/reset and then it'll start ok and then run well enough to get you home.

    On Saturday I'll spend some time getting some data logs created.

  2. Nige, to be fair I've done that twice but I will do again as you suggest.

    The basic tune ran my injectors at 80% after a few miles. It was suggested that I reduce the lambda authority to zero and that left me a vehicle that runs, albeit not perfectly but its where I am now.

    I did have a blown exhaust but I've just had it completely refabricated so this will eliminate this as a problem.

    Nige, in a post I made a few days ago (ego) I uploaded a log of when it was playing up.

    Of course it could be my fuel pump or fuel regulator, both were fine before the conversion, and this only happens when the engine is hot.

    What I did notice the other day was that while on the motorway the afr needle was way to the right all the time and then it started to progressively lose power. In traffic it barely ran. I turned it off opened the bonnet for a minute and reloaded the tune and it ran a lot better but not perfectly.

    I'm running with the lambda authority to zero so it's not that effecting the afr.

    My exhaust is new with no leaks so the lambda reading should be reliable now.

    What should my air density correction be set to, air temp or coolant temp?

  4. As some of you know if been been having trouble getting my ms install to work well. So far it's fine for about an hour and then starts losing power and becomes undrivable.

    Reading around the forums it seems that my problem maybe heat soak effecting the inlet air temp sensor, it seems to tally up with the problems others have had although I don't have a particularly bad hot start problem.

    I was wondering if I reloctaed the sensor from just after my air box to my snorkel I could alleviate the problem completely, or at least rule it out and narrow down my quest.

    Pro's cons?

  5. Nige, not sure. All the long runs I've had its been connected because I've been logging. Only on one run did i haventhe autotune running it went pair shaped sharpish. That resulted is a similar map to the one I ended up using the analyser in megaviewer with the second log I sent you using your spare ecu, it richened everything until it almost didn't run.

    This weekend I'll load the base map and then run it without the laptop connected.

    When the laptop is connected, is it actually doing anything unless its in autotune mode?

  6. I didn't but I will, I'll send it to Bowie69 as he kindly offered to load it up for me as it was large.

    I sent the two recent logs from nigels spare ecu to nigel and he's looking at them.

    what was weird was that the second log when I loaded it into the megalog anaylser really richened the map just like the first one did with the original ecu.

    when I load the base map, from nige, into megatune I get 20 warnings saved to audit.log, before it asks to burn to the ecu, is this normal?

  7. Ok, the msq file that I'm using in both the ecu's is the only variable I could be effecting and I haven't changed any of the system files.

    The tune in the old ecu is the same exact code that I loaded into the new ecu.

    Does this then mean that it's probably a component failure within the ecu?

    Basically yes, or at least for now it appaears so.

    Stopping and reloading before originally fixed it for a while but the last time I reloaded it only partly restored power but it got me home - 60 miles

    As the fault only appears after a few hours of driving it'll take me a few weekends to test as you ask as I don't have much time due to available daylight and work commitments.

    Where I've mounted the ecu, behind the cubby box, its a bit of a faff swapping the ecu's so I'm going to have to mod the install as well which'll take a while.

    I'm not familiar with the way the software works, are the setting files different from the tune files? I have the same tune loaded in both ecu's now.

  9. I have two fuel tanks fitted in series both of which are vented. I get no swoosh when I open the filler cap and had no problems before.

    The fuel pump is only two years old and an original lr part. I have an upgraded regulator with gauge set at about 42psi from memory. I can set up my drift camcorder to read the gauge to see what's happening as I drive.

    I can't discount the above but as reloading the tune made a dramatic difference these are less likely I would have thought.

    The edis, would this failing effect the duty cycle?

    I went for a short drive last night with Nigel's spare ecu and its running ok. This weekend I'll put 60 miles on it as it was then it was really noticeable before.

  10. Hi, back again. Was off-line due to a family issue but now that normality is returning keen to get the motor sorted, thanks again for all the help and advice.

    Ok where am I now, well, Nigel kindly sent me his spare ecu that I just connected up.

    Went out for a little drive and logged the results (attached)NIGEL ECU RUN 1.xls

    The only thing I'd had changed was the authority to 5% and the idle down to 1000 from 1400.

    It was only a shortish run but performance didn't feel like it was degrading, I'll need to run it for a few more hours to make sure though.

    The log is below, the gego looks a bit on/off - is that ok?

    I ran the analyser which changed a few figures which I saved but over wrote the idle rev range keeping them original. Again, is this ok - how you do it?

    I still need to set my base idle and double check my timing (never seem to have enough time) but it appears to be running ok this first time out.

  11. I went out today greenlaning and logged most of the day.

    Here is what happened.

    I'm using Nigel's tune and have only modified the idle and the controller authority from 15% to 5%.

    Spent the first 6 hours running fine then I noticed a drop in power which came on gradually. I reloaded the tune with controller authority set 0 and although there was a slight improvement. Completely shut everything done and reloaded the tune and switched off completely and waited ten minutes. It then ran better but still underpowered slightly and degraded further as I drove home which was a fifty mile drive.

    Looking at the logs it looks ok until the problem really is noticeable and the volts, on the log, then starts jumping about.

    It's like a component starts to breakdown. Reloading the tune helps but doesnt cure it, it starts to degrade again.

    In answer to fridgefreezers questions, answers below'

    Are you using Nige's supplied firmware & settings? basically yes

    Have you changed any settings?yes, idle speed and the authority

    Can you post up your settings file? I'll try

    Does stopping & restarting without touching any settings make a difference?no

    Does popping the fuel cap off change anything?no

  12. Tank vacuum. A possibility but never had that before and it wouldn't explain why the volts would drop. Also when I filled up with fuel the vacuum would have been released, no whoosh, and I wouldn't have only noticed the change in running once I loaded the tune at idle.

  13. I will post a log when I next go out, although the voltage drops the same as my first post from what I saw. (I've got an issue to deal with first b4 i can post, will sms Nigel to explain)

    Spark plugs are new and gapped as per your recommendation.

    The map performance issue doesn't reset based on a rest, it's seems cumulative in terms of misfire as you go one regardless of stops and starts.

    It was awful as I stopped for fuel, filled up, and then reloaded the map. You felt the hiccup and then it noticeable ran better at idle and off it was back in hooligan mode.

    You remember when I used TS it went crazy first time out it went crazy, would this be connected?

  14. Lets see if I've got this right.

    Disconnect the PWM plug and clamp the hose between it and the back of the plenum.

    Then adjust the idle screw on top of the butterfly valve with a warmed up engine.

    Will that work or do you really have to undo all the pipes and block? (mine are uber tight)

  15. A quick update.

    The misfire got worse, anything over 1500 revs it was hopeless and barely went over 30mph

    I swapped the coil packs, no difference. Checked the wiring, all seemed ok and re-routed the 12v alternator output so it wasn't near anything ms related.

    No change. Quite dejected at this point.

    Then I re-burnt the tune I had saved and voila, all fixed. It revs out and pulls well. It should have been exactly the same but this time it runs a treat.

    The engine starts well but I now need to tune the idle which is a bit high and slightly lumpy.

    So all good, well alsmost, the inlet manifold gasket is leaking. We changed it when we were installing MS so its a bit disppaointing I've got tear it apart again. If it aint one thing its another, thats land rovers for you I guess.

  16. What drives the duty cycle, what is it a function of? Is it from the map itself or does MS work it out on the fly?

    On your setups do the volts drop at all when you open the throttle? What type of things could cause the MS board to drop voltage based on hitting a particular rpm?

    I haven't tried different coil packs yes (as my mates got my truck this weekend for some welding) but is this still a possibility?
