  1. hi all,the wife's p38 1997 dt, had a problem with eas for a fortnight now, so need some help, it all started with a 35 max fault on dash and on the bump stops, bought software and leads from fleabay, but would not move fault, now that's being sorted, it was fuse number f23 in engine bay replaced and 35 max fault removed from dash display aswell as tc, and abs fault all gone, suspension would not lift at first, pump works fine, moved passenger seat back to normal place and front end shot up to maximum height, but left rear on bump stops , looks like a dragster now, what can i do, will i have to reset each corner through

    software cheer's defender dinky

Hi I had probs with my freelander key I went to Liveridge 4x4 in earlswood nr j3 of the m42 the guy sorted it with there autologic cost 48 +vat they do computer work for the main dealer but cheaper may be worth a try

  2. Today I changed the head gasket on my Freelander 1.8i, all went well and I chcked carefully that my valve timing was correct, now it seems that it won't start. it attempts to fire then the plugs get wet. It seems that its cyclinders 1 & 2 that are the wettest loocking through the plug hole. anyone have any suggestions for drying them out or reason why it won't run it has a good spark.

don't know if you have sorted this but i got called out to a freelander after a diy headgasket job turned out the guy had cam wheels fitted wrong just remove bolts to check pins in both cams fitted line up as i refitted cam wheels correctly and it fired up first turn of the key

    I hope this helps

  3. either of the above or possibly the water rail running at the back of engine under inlet manifold may be worth putting a pressure check to see under pressure, unless water is leaking in to cylinder bore and exiting out of exhaust i have had that before

  4. I have just had a flood damaged td4 in.

I took the glow plugs out and wound it over with the injectors unplugged and i had liquid coming out of the heater plug holes on 1 and 4.

I dropped the oil to see if there was any water contamination and to my surprise i got a good 15 yes fifteen liters of liquid come out of the sump!

It was incredibly thin and im sure its more than 70% diesel.

How can this have got into the sump?

I refilled with fresh oil and it wont start, it turns over fine but no start.

    Any ideas?

    thanks

    Colin

Hi Colin i have had the same sort of thing with the defender td5 and found the injector seals worn replaced them and problem sorted may be worth checking but be careful the injectors are a tight fit DON'T lever against the plastic rocker cover it will break and its not cheap!!!

    cheers

    Bill

  5. Have you had a diagnostic check.

    (plugged in)

It could be a couple of things

You need to plug it in but until then try unplugging the MAF sensor underneath the cover by the air filter if performance is better then that may be your cause

Also list your area in case we can guide you to a decent dealer who can plug in.

    Billy

  6. Just one question Les, why aren't you using the upgraded head gasket???

    Brilliant write up!!!

    Martin

Great how to guide Les but the gasket i used was a thick multi layer with a black shim that goes on top i find they do a few more miles

    Keep up the good work

    Billy

  7. Also check the jubilees on the pipe going from the rocker cover to the block and the pipe returning oil to the lower half of the engine for the oil separater/ breather.

Both of these leaked on mine and didn't half cause a mess. A little bit of oil goes a long way :(

    HTH

    Mo

Check condition of pipe from block to rocker cover i have had a few split on the inner edge and MO IS RIGHT A LITTLE OIL GOES A LONG WAY

  8. Yes, they are different. The complete filter head assembly new does not cost very much.

The 200TDI filter is a spin on cartridge style. The older style has a through bolt and a removable bowl.

Part no for TDI fuel filter is AEU 2147L

plenty of used Disco filter housings around

  9. Tom hi mate i have put a few disco engines in defenders and i dont change fly wheel housing i just remove all studs apart from the top 3 then slide them together and refit studs that line up then drill and tap the others.

Use defender mounts on disco engine and use disco rad and intercooler with defender surround as you dont weld, you can use disco surround with some basic welding then a mixture of water pipes and a defender wiring loom or just the plug off the loom (i may have a plug at work)

I am in birmingham so not to far from you so if you need any parts or info P M me

    Cheers and good luck

    Billy

  10. Hi all just had a TD4 52 plate come in at work non starter those men in the yellow vans say fuel pump as it starts with a little sniff of easy start but after disconecting fuel pipe we have fountain of fuel so would seem ok

Glowplug light lights up but goes out with engine management light after a few seconds should this be longer??

Have plugged into my mac tools scanner but has no faults stored i would like to get sorted as cheap as poss as its my mates motor so if any of you have had simular probs please help

  11. Hi,

Just scraped some funds together to spend some much needed attention to basically the front axle full stop!

Will start with the list of bits first that I know them to be called!!!

    1. Swivel Gasket Kit

    2. CV Joint (don't know if its 10 spline or 24 spline version!!!)

    3. Wheel bearings (told to try changing these as tracking is out on camber of one wheel)

    4. Any seals/gaskets that should be changed in the process.

    It's a 1993 Landy Disco 200tdi. VIN: SALLJGMF7KA061027

Can anyone help me with this list? Any bit you would replace at the same time etc etc.... I need to know part numbers and cheap places to buy (off the web). I know of Paddock Spares not sure if there is cheaper or not but just getting confused and want to get the right bits as my disco is indispensable for work and I can only have her off road over a weekend for the repairs!!!

Would be very very great full of any help!

    Thanks

    Iain

Check swivel bearings if camber is out rock wheel top to bottom check if complete hub moves

  12. hi boys and girls is a defender front swivel hub the same as a discovery one and if so where is the best place to get a complete unit p.s just put disco tdi 200 in defender which had j19 td oh what a deference got down pipe off ebay and les henson guide on here was a great help. so big thanks to les :P

Hi Tand 200disco swivels are the same new or second hand try Liveridge 4x4 in earlswood just off junc 3 m42 not to far from you

  13. i have only just brought my landy and there were a couple of things that i wanted to do to it before taking it off roading. one of them was replacing the rear dampers. i have done this but i cannot keep the damper still when doing up the nut on the bottom. i know there is a flat point on the bottom of the damper to keep it still using a small spanner but i cannot do the nut up tight enough to get to that. is there a special tool i need to do this? am i being a retard and doing it all worng( as per usual)? or have i assembled it wrong? thanks for the help

Hi Tonka make sure you hav'nt cross threaded it then hold lower half of shock tight (above axle ) with large mole grips or i use either a chain grip or large adjustable pliers :):)

  14. I used the Defender rad as that was a 200tdi unit fitted previously and the Disco one would not fit, the oil cooler pipes were a different size as I remember.

I see if I the defender sender makes a difference and check the stat!

Is it worth flushing rad just in case as we had a 300tdi running warm at 70ish turned out previous owner liked RADWELD changed rad and all was ok!

in responce to disco / defender rad oil cooler pipes don't the adapters unscrew??

  15. There must be a way of setting the setting the auto arming of the immobiliser !! either on or off !!! (Best read a owners manual sometime  )

Both my last TD5 and the 07, can have the keys left in the ignition, and will restart after 10 mins or 10 hours !!

But used a 06 TD5 90 today, and that one rearms itself with the key left in, necessitating using the fob unlock, to deactivate the immobiliser, Only the 2nd one (from memory) that rearms itself

Hi i know if you go to a garage with a T4 or simular computer you can alter alarm/immobilizer functions or dissable altogether B)
