  1. a friend of mine has a 1.8 Freelander.

It has developed a whine which seems to be related to certain speeds and slight cornering, BUT only when warm (after 30 miles).

Its really hard to tell where its coming from, but possibly rear.

Could this be wheel bearings? CV?

Hi check for oil leaks around rear diff as they are prone to leaky / noisey diffs

possibly remove prop and drive in fwd to eliminate prop bearings

  2. Thanks very much Les - as they say, a picture paints a thousand words. Mind you, why on earth these aren't included with the x-member I don't know and certainly no reflection on your welding skills either but it does look a bit of a mess at the rear end.

The main issue in France is that the law is (apparently) very unforgiving on inappropriate welding and if such is discovered during the equivalent of the MOT (Control Techinque) the tester can notify the appropriate body and criminal procedings entered into. Hence the reluctance of the garage to carry out the work. This may be a case of 'Plan B' and plate the chassis.

Hi the 110 crossmember is available with the said tables in place it mounts right behind the spring mount almost a quarter chassis i have seen them at Liveridge 4x4 in Solihull B)

  3. cam belt changed.

wear in the gearbox mainshaft (where it goes into the transferbox)

corrosion in the corner of the seatbox (where the seatbelts bolt onto)

    thats about it really.

Hi i am a newbie i dont currently own a landy but work on them and would like to add check for rot as at work last week we had a 1997 defender 90 with severe rot on the whole chassis
