  1. does anyone have any experience of retro-fitting air con to an old 110 csw???

i`m just at the "seeing if its worth it" stage at the min, the 110 will in future be used in france/spain + africa, so thought it might be handy to have especially with 2 under 5`s in the car...

the thing is i`ve just bought a 200tdi engine, and with it came the air con rad + fans, condenser, heater box, air con pump and all the pipes and wiring... the only thing i can see is missing is some sort of control unit for on the dash...

its a 1989 110, but i forgot to ask what year car the engine was out of....

also am i going to have problems with the heater box? the 200tdi was from a disco...

  2. you really need to know exactly what temp it opened at by sticking a thermometer in the water too, it should open at 82 degrees, if in doubt, just stick a new one in, they aren`t expensive... you could try running without a thermostat in to see if that helps, but the overheating might not be down to the thermostat anyway.... could also be: blocked or missing rad fins, air lock in the cooling system, faulty viscous fan, water leak. or it might not be overheating at all and it might be a faulty gauge or sender or dodgy wiring....

are you loosing water, or using water?

if you wiggle the electric connection on top of the temp sender does the temp gauge reading change (mine does... )??

is there any antifreeze in it???

have you done anything else recently to it???

if you start it up + run it (from cold) without the expansion tank cap on can you see a steady stream of bubbles coming up through the water????

  3. (maybe if i was in a mondeo i wouldn`t have broken down in the first place???:ph34r: )

whoever you are i saw you again today (B13 MUD) on the M18 southbound between J1 and the M1 on my way back from finishing yesterdays jobs... hope you get home safe!!! ;)

  4. Thanks to the owner of the white 300tdi 110 (with the lr4x4 sticker in the front window) who stopped to see if he could help when he saw my 110 csw in Tamworth services this afternoon with the bonnet up... although there was nothing you could do, (and neither could the AA man, and i had to get recovered home - leaking injector pipe.... ) it was kind of you to stop to check we were ok, i doubt it would have happened if we were both in mondeos.... ;) i finally got home at 8pm, rather than 4pm as intended, but it should only be a 5min fix in the morning, and at least it saved me using my own diesel to get home...

So, thanks, whoever you are!!! ;)

  5. i`ve just fixed the headlining in my 110 csw, i removed it all, got it on the patio table (don`t tell the wife) and got some spray floor tile adhesive from wickes + used that to stick the lining back onto the board, it works a treat... if i had been feeling really flush i`d have gone over it with halfords flexible vinyl spray paint which gives a very nice finish in dark grey, but at near enough £10 a tin i think i would have needed 3 tins....

  6. you can advance/retard the pump timing by slackening the 3 nuts holding the pump onto the timing case and rotating it, don`t know if it`ll give you the effect you desire, but it sure made mine smoke....

i also gave mine 3 full turns on the turbo rod thingy for a bit more poke... i`m not recommending either mod to anyone - i`ve only done this cos i miss my old 200tdi 90 and have come to the conclusion the only way to convince my mrs we need a tdi in the 110 is to blow the td up.... ;) (plus i have some spare td bits in the garage.... )
