does anyone have any experience of retro-fitting air con to an old 110 csw???
i`m just at the "seeing if its worth it" stage at the min, the 110 will in future be used in france/spain + africa, so thought it might be handy to have especially with 2 under 5`s in the car...
the thing is i`ve just bought a 200tdi engine, and with it came the air con rad + fans, condenser, heater box, air con pump and all the pipes and wiring... the only thing i can see is missing is some sort of control unit for on the dash...
its a 1989 110, but i forgot to ask what year car the engine was out of....
also am i going to have problems with the heater box? the 200tdi was from a disco...

you really need to know exactly what temp it opened at by sticking a thermometer in the water too, it should open at 82 degrees, if in doubt, just stick a new one in, they aren`t expensive... you could try running without a thermostat in to see if that helps, but the overheating might not be down to the thermostat anyway.... could also be: blocked or missing rad fins, air lock in the cooling system, faulty viscous fan, water leak. or it might not be overheating at all and it might be a faulty gauge or sender or dodgy wiring....
are you loosing water, or using water?
if you wiggle the electric connection on top of the temp sender does the temp gauge reading change (mine does... )??
is there any antifreeze in it???
have you done anything else recently to it???
if you start it up + run it (from cold) without the expansion tank cap on can you see a steady stream of bubbles coming up through the water????

my brother in law got 4 dakars in 265/75/16 fitted for £240 i think it was, i got 4 8ply saharas fitted last week for £280, but they were 235/85/16s.... in doncaster.... trouble is when i asked everything else was on back order, with 6ply saharas due in about 6-8 weeks...

5 inches of shaft sticking out cos the shafts out of the back of a 200tdi disco 1 are not the same diameter all the way along: about 5 inches from the outer end they increase in diameter for about a 2 inch stretch... they become thicker than the hole they are supposed to go into...
-
Theres a different PCD between disco & LR axles on the drive flange end.
it never got that far... it stopped going in with about 5 inches of shaft still sticking out...

Does anyone know if you can fit 24 spline diff and halfshafts in a drum brake axle on a 90
thanks
which is it you`ve bust, the diff or the shafts??? i`ve got both here, cos i ended up just putting the complete disco axle under it...
-
i took the 24 spline diff and shafts from the back of a disco 1 200tdi L reg with disk brakes, and the shafts wouldn`t fit in the rear axle of a 1990 90 csw (2.5 petrol) with drums on the back...hth
-
does anyone know if the sailsbury rear diff on a 110 (1989) is adjustable to take some of the slack out??? i thought i heard summat about this somewhere, but cant remember for sure....
-
theres a chance the shafts wouldn`t have fitted in the axle tube anyway, i was told they would fit when i did it on mine, but the 24 spline shafts have a shightly thicker section a couple of inches from the outer edge + it wouldn`t go into the axle tube....

Nice to have met you.
same to you two too!
you were going right past my house on your way to kirton aswell.......
i`d not thought about it being a td5, but thinking about it it did seem very quiet for a landrover....
-
might have been that, all the cola i drank waiting for the AA man started to send my eyes a bit funny...
it had a "Black Plastic Jobby" on the drivers side wing...
-
(maybe if i was in a mondeo i wouldn`t have broken down in the first place??? )
whoever you are i saw you again today (B13 MUD) on the M18 southbound between J1 and the M1 on my way back from finishing yesterdays jobs... hope you get home safe!!!

Thanks to the owner of the white 300tdi 110 (with the lr4x4 sticker in the front window) who stopped to see if he could help when he saw my 110 csw in Tamworth services this afternoon with the bonnet up... although there was nothing you could do, (and neither could the AA man, and i had to get recovered home - leaking injector pipe.... ) it was kind of you to stop to check we were ok, i doubt it would have happened if we were both in mondeos.... i finally got home at 8pm, rather than 4pm as intended, but it should only be a 5min fix in the morning, and at least it saved me using my own diesel to get home...
So, thanks, whoever you are!!!

i`ve just fixed the headlining in my 110 csw, i removed it all, got it on the patio table (don`t tell the wife) and got some spray floor tile adhesive from wickes + used that to stick the lining back onto the board, it works a treat... if i had been feeling really flush i`d have gone over it with halfords flexible vinyl spray paint which gives a very nice finish in dark grey, but at near enough £10 a tin i think i would have needed 3 tins....

you can advance/retard the pump timing by slackening the 3 nuts holding the pump onto the timing case and rotating it, don`t know if it`ll give you the effect you desire, but it sure made mine smoke....
i also gave mine 3 full turns on the turbo rod thingy for a bit more poke... i`m not recommending either mod to anyone - i`ve only done this cos i miss my old 200tdi 90 and have come to the conclusion the only way to convince my mrs we need a tdi in the 110 is to blow the td up.... (plus i have some spare td bits in the garage.... )
-
i`ve been wondering the same with mine... i`m going to try loft insulation cos i`ve got a roll of that stuff with the silver wrapping on it, left over... i know wickes or b+q also do a heat proof bubble wrap insulation, which might work, might not...
-
next time it wont start remove a spark plug and see if they`re wet with petrol... if they are wipe them off + mop the holes out with a rag, put the plugs back + see if it starts... if it does i`d start by looking at the coil....
-
suppose it depends if the diffs are both the same number of splines???
-
ah i see well if he`s going to all that trouble he might aswell fit those bits aswell....
-
is it for the front axle??
http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DEFENDER/S...front_axle.html
or the rear???
http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DEFENDER/S...pring_seat.html
-
you can use the front axle off the disco, but not the rear... the rear disco axle is not weight rated strong enough for the back of the 110, (and i think the sailsbury diff/halfshafts are stronger than the disco ones anyway)... the rear springs are bigger on the 110 aswell....
-
do richards do them???
-
i`ve got a haines for a civvy spec 110 mid 80`s (diesel) to 300tdi, if its any help + i`m only down`t road... i`ve also got a 110 csw 110 from 89 on the drive if looking at it might help?!?!?!?!?
