  1. Hi Nidge, have just read the thread you linked to...

My opinion is that the whole thing turned out ok in the end...

And yes, the minute one cracks or fails I will post the 'Post Mortem'

    My say.....
Just consider an aftermarket skinned door frame for a 90/110 is £280 (Ebay) and

I got 2 COMPLETE doors for just over £300! Now that does compute!
I, personally am made up with the build quality..not being a metallurgist or a structural Engineer,

my opinion is they look a Million times better the 24 yr old OEM doors they replaced...
    (I think the Series doors are a far better design for all the things they don't have, that the Defender doors do}
    Cheers

    Gary

PS. Doors were fitted on the 20th July '13....

  2. it's a 36 spline column,

I bought one of these from ebay,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-special-steering-wheel-tool-puller-Land-rover-/121150540535?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c35228af7

undo the centre nut but leave it on the column, if the wheel jumps off it might smack you in the face, leaving the nut on but undone will prevent this.

easy to use & does the job brilliantly

Happened to me with an M151 steering wheel...the boss hit me on the forehead and I saw stars!

My mate Ralph, nearly very nearly laid an egg he was laughing so much!!!

  3. What was your 110 originally? You can work the gearing out with the gear ratio calculator in the technical archive.
    Sounds almost as if you've got a 1.6 t'box in there from a 2.5na

Just spent an hour or so on Ashcrofts ratio calculator......And the result is....

    I have the gear set of the N/A 110 (12D) fitted in a 28D LT230....

    EJParrott, you were spot on!

Q1. Can I swap the cluster in situ?

Q2. Anyone know where I can have it done Nr Chester? Don't mind a journey!

  4. UPDATE: Serial numbers found...

    LT77 sn 50A030370
    LT230 sn 28D066990C 22C=1.222 ratio
According to the Ashcroft info, I have the correct ratio transfer box in...
AIthough when asking this question years ago,I remember a Landie mechanic saying that it may have the wrong gear set in...
They say.."This is a very popular gear set, especially for those with a TD5 90/110 or Tdi which revs excessively on the motorway. This gear set will enable you to raise your transfer case gearing by 15%, by replacing the gearing in the exising 1.410 ratio transfer box with new 1.222 gears, as used in the Disco. This will not only reduce your revs but also reduce noise. This change will not effect Low Range and will leave your Speedo reading true. This kit offers a simple and effective change to your vehicle and there is nothing to go wrong."
So why is it revving so high?

  5. The sticker underneath the box has gone...
    I had a 200tdi fitted in my 110 a few years ago from a Disco 1...
I had a prob with the transfer box jumping into neutral, so they were going to

sort that at the same time, then, I was told I had worn splines on the gearbox output shaft

(I did see the wear on the shaft and it was very nearly terminal!) so a different gear box was fitted...
The ratio issue only came to light months later when I gave my 90 owning mate a lift

and he remarked that it was revving too high!
When I looked for the ratio sticker on the transfer case, it had been scraped off...
I am asking for advice now as have just come back from Scotland and motorway driving

is a chore (to say the least!) with the high revs....50mph (2,500) is more bearable!
    What do you guys think?
    Cheers
    Gary
