  1. Not sure if this will help but i had the same prob on a disco2 td5 i had to change the loom as the oil had made the loom/wires brittle causing me a misfire.
  2. Ok will do and thanks for the help guys
  3. Ok Les tried that and i could'nt get any fuel to squirt out useing both the foot of the pump and the manual primer arm so may be the pump is the prob, anyone recommend what make of pump to buy and where from? and should i change the fuel filter to a tdi or will mine be ok? Thanks
  4. Ok the old engine was a 2.5 n/a diesel so should i be able to swap the temp sender straight over or will i need to tap it? And the lift pump doesnt need the spacer, but when its running if i hold the arm right down i can feel it pulsing but its not supplying any fuel im still using the old 2.5 fuel filter (plumed together slightly different) if that makes a difference im not sure? and also the make of lift pump is britpart not sure if i should get a genuine or not. At the moment i bypassed the lift and it seems to run fine although i would like to run it the way it should through the lift pump One last thing i did quickly connect the lift pump today and the engine would tick over but not rev up and was a bugger to start so i linked it out again Sorry to be a pain but im really stuck
  5. So guys as the title says i got a problem! well a few actually and list them as follows 1. fitted all the engine and bits an bobs ran it for about 2 mins and the temp gauge went to red! so do i need to change the sender or the gauge? 2. after 30/40 mins it cut out so checked the fuel supply to find hardly any fuel, traced back to the lift pump not working so replaced it with 2 NEW ONES and still no joy BUT if i by pass the lift pump straight to the filter it runs sweet! so may be a problem with the cam/drive for the pump 3. what sort of problems can i expect by bypassing the lift pump if any? So if any of you guys can help, please feel free. Thanks
  6. It doesn't sound like theres anything wrong with your existing T box so keep that unless you want the higher gearing (1.2) of a disco box for reduced revs at speed (it depends on the use of your vehicle as to whether is worth doing). I will be using it to go to and from work (about 20min drive) and eventully would like to get into abit of offroading so what do you think would be best to keep the t box or swap with disco. Thanks
  7. Hmm yes im confused so you chaps are telling me that the gearbox wont fit? but the engine and axle will! the reason that i want to change the rear axle is to have the disc brakes so i could still get the disco and use the parts i need and get the box recond, scraping the rest of the vehicle wont be a prob as i know the guys at the local breakers.
  8. Ok great i just need to know if it was worth spending on an overhaul but as your reply il go for the disco swap. Thanks for your help
  9. Ok guys im abit stuck i have a 1985 90 2.5 diesel! engine is slugish, smokes like hell, got no 3rd and 4th gears, reserve keeps poping out all 4 wheel bearings are worn and shed loads of welding, so i got a small amout of work to do but do i get the box rebuilt and maybe buy a disco 200tdi and do a swap OR can i use the rear axle, gearbox+transferbox props and engine from a 92 disco tdi that i have been offered? and if that is possible is it a fairly straight forward swap or major headache. Thanks
