Thanks! I think I know why!! 50p a mile in fuel - why did I go for AUTO???

Today Hana and I went doing what Dakar's do best... ...Zooming round abandoned quarry's. And for once we did not forget our camera, only the battery was flat! Lucky Hana has a camera phone so we took a few pics for you all. Tixover Quarry - the easy bit:- Entry Fee.............£25 Fuel for the day...£15 Jet Wash after.....£10 The look on my face as Hana descents a vertical on 3 wheels, priceless! The next second the rear N/S wheel was 4 feet in the air!!! Thanks Hana!!! (you can see the dip!.. Ok I know its what you boys do, but this was our first outing 7 grand and 7 months of work..............) Stuck! and Yes snorkels do like eating dust! You cant stand Dakar's on the rear bumper ( I hope! ) ;D This poor old boy just couldn't get his defender to the top of this well rutted and pitted hill. The organiser told me "Your Dakar looks amazing going up there, so gracefully and effortless, which was a great compliment for HANA as she drove it!!!" This is Hana trying to break my Dakar.... ....jealousy is a terrible trait! I stole this picture from Chris, I chap I met there, so I will credit http://www.northants4x4.com/ Thanks to my old friend Bob who gave us some lessons and ended up with 2 inches of silt in the foot-well of his Defender. Your phone IS in there somewhere mate! LOL We had a great day out, there is a burger van too so dont miss out next time.

Have you checked the auto selector switch, it will only start in park, Have you checked the coil with a meter? How about the center pin in the Dizzy cap When you turn on the ignition does the fuel pump prime? I spent ages finding the fuel pump relay was faulty. Just talking you through my replacement program! Good luck

Wouldnt start again on Friday, a new relay got it going, lets help that we are all sorted once and for all!

Three times, over the last few weeks my Dakar (Disco) wont start. Its not powering the fuel pump, I cannot here it prime I turn on the ignition. Could it be the relay? P.S. thanks for all the advice I have gleaned from the forum so far, its great to search a problem, get an expert diagnosis, and fix the problem in seconds :-) I cant find an answer to this so please help!!!

Managed to sort it today, The out pipe of the fuel pump snapped off when trying to remove the pipe to see if pump was pumping so I fitted a new pump unit. Same problem. Ran a wire from the battery live to the pump and tried to start it, No Joy, Checked Plugs for a spark, No spark Swapped the coil and bingo She fired and ran. Reconnected correct pump loom and now perfect! Im sure Cars are like Women, your not supposed to understand them.

Hi Folks, I have searched and searched but cant find the answer to my question. I have a 3.5l V8 EFI Discovery 200 Series 1993 (with the horrid blue dash) just before the face lift. I am converting it into a DAKAR so the body has gone but now it wont start. My problem is that there is no power coming to the fuel pump. I have metered out the wires and all ok, earth is good etc. The relay does not put power to the white/purple pump wire. Hence the pump stays dead. I have changed the relay to no avail. I have connected the pump directally to the battery so I know it works. There is an imobilser (i think) but no spider as in the 300 series discoveries. Can anyone help? Simon
