  1. Thanks Western. The question is for my 90, that needs the new engine etc.. I will check the install in my 110 (that is an original 300Tdi). Good to know I can use the propshafts. The 90 is from 1986 and has been converted to Defender 200Tdi. Will the handbrake cable also fit to that?
  2. Hi there, The 200Tdi engine in my 90 is running on end (heavy oil use and loud tappet noise, despite set at correct valve clearance). The performance is also getting worse. So I decided it's time to replace it. The LT77 gearbox has seen better days also and the tranfer box is 1.6 ratio (don't ask me why). I have a Defender 300 Tdi engine incl all the hoses, radiator/intercooler, airfilter and both gearboxes available. Also the transmission tunnel and seatbox. I prefer to change to 300Tdi because I like the engine more and also prefer the R380 gearbox. My Defender 110 is also 300Tdi. I have new wide yoke propshaft from Gwyn Lewis on the 90 and I would like to keep them. Now the questions bit. 1) If I change to the 300Tdi engine and gearboxes, will the LT230 gearbox sit in the same position so I can use the wide yoke propshafts or are the 300Tdi propshafts a different length? 2) Besides changing the engine mounts, what modifications are required? 3) Can I keep the 200Tdi radiator/intercooler (it is in better condition then the one from the 300Tdi)? 4) Can I re-use the handbrake system or is the 300Tdi one different? Thanks very much for the answers
  3. Hi all, Thanks for the answers. I was only looking for modifications in the engine to determine if I can use a pre 2002 engine in the 2003 Defender. @ Porny, Can I fit the injectors and EGR from the old engine? Same for the fuel return (blank the not required connection?). And what about the other things?
  4. Just a tip based on my experience when doing the same: The front radius arms from your 90 may be narrower than the ones that should go on the Td5 axle. If I'm correct from 93 on there are 52mm wide and pre 93 are 47mm. So it's possible you will need the Td5 raduis arms also or use the old ones with spacers.
  5. Hi, The Td5 engine in my 2003 Defender is kaput and a'm sourcing a good used one. I can buy a good 2000 engine but now I've been told that I must have a 2003 or later engine because there have been modifications from 2003 on. I have never heard of any modifications. Does anybody know what the differences between a pre 2003 and 2003 on engine are? Is it only the ECU? Thanks.
  6. Thanks BogMonster & Western , I came to the conclusion of the worn gearbox because of the "clonking" noise when going from throttle of to throttle on when driving. I guessed it was excessive play on the output shaft. Must be somewhere else in the driveline then. How do I check this? I want to sort it out before fitting the 110 axles to the 90. Rob
  7. Hi, I have a complete set of Td5 axles, propshafts, gearbox and transferbox from a 2002 110 with only 20k miles on them. The current gearbox in my 1998 110 is reaching end of life (output shaft worn I think). The 1998 110 currently has ARB's front and rear but I don't need them (were on the car when I bought it). I want to fit the 110 axles with ARB's onto my Challenge 90. Will the Td5 axles, propshafts and gearboxes fit in my 110 300Tdi? Any difference between a 300Tdi R380 and a Td5 R380 or is it a straight swap? Will the 110 axles with the ARB's fit my 1986 Challenge 90 with 200 Tdi engine? Can I re-use the Gwyn Lewis Wide Yoke propshafts or do I need to change them? Thanks, Rob
  8. Hi, My 1988 Defender 90 with 200Tdi engine is in need of a new chassis. I can buy a good galvanised 90 Td5 chassis. Will it fit? What do I need to change? I gues new engine mounts. Thanks, Rob
  9. Hi everybody, I've been offered a complete airco system from a 2000 Td5 90. I currently have a 1998 110 CSW 300Tdi. Does anyone know if it is possible to fit the Td5 aircon to the 300Tdi? Has anyone done this before? If so what kind of work is to be expected and are any 300Tdi aircon parts required. Thanks for the help.
