  1. i will be doing offroad driving . kam diffs have a 4.7 rear for salisbury but a 4.75 for the front, and they say its ok,but i would not be happy with that setup. i think it will be down to 4.11s with the standard defender transfer box. i know that the low range is all the same by the lt230 transferbox. where else could a person look for diferent diff ratios? earl
  2. hi, who has done this before, and what do i have to change? i was thinking of fitting halfshafts and cv joints from kam, and changing the diff to 4.11 with the standard defender transferbox,or using the 4,7 diff ratio with 1,2 or 1,0 transferbox. what would work better? what about the ratio difference of 4,75 on the front diff and 4,70 on the rear diff? how would that afect road driving? earl
  3. i think it is just a pity to restore it and than just hide it in a garage, and any way when a person gets older it becomes mor difficult getting in to a forwarcontrol.Even with the midle diff unlocked i ifnd the defender more capable off road than the FC in 4wd. i am going to be deciding the next couple of days what i want to do with it. thanks for your offer for the straight six, but i am more in to diesels. (because i do about 40 000 km a year)
  4. so i finaly got down to do some work on my FC, got the engine running (after standing still for about 9 years), took the camperbox off,and made a test drive. the stiff suspension , the lack of a power steering and hard clutch makes a defender feel like a luxery car. the chassis is rust free,so now i have to decide what i am going to do. am still thinking of a 300tdi auto conversion, power steering, and more comfortable springs and than using it as a DD.
  5. picked it up on the weekend, but could not get it home (the 3 ton trailer could not cope with the load so i had to leave it by a friend) maybe i will leave it as it is and use my defender as a DD, but i would still like a FC with coils ,TDI and automatic. i will just get it running for the meantime and see.
  6. @ PH, any pictures? or where can i contact your mate? regards earl
  7. i actually have all the parts i need,i have been collecting for the last 3 years, but a point to consider is the 100ds of hours of work.
  8. i would use a salsbury in the rear, and the 130 def. has a GVM of 3500 kg, so as far as that is concerned, that should work out.
  9. i just looked up the link you sent , but that is a 101 forwardcontrol, and i am talking about a 110 FC , which used the series chassis
  10. hi, the chassis is in perfect condition, but it is because of ride comfort, than fitting in the complete drivetrain. wheelbase is actually the same. i have a 1998 defender, a 1995 discovery and a 1988 RRC chassis, and ecept for wheelbase , the curves look the same.
  11. just bought a forwardcontrol , an am wondering if anybody out there has put it on a defender chassis. any infos would be welcome. here are some pictures. there is a 2,5 l peugot TD engine in it but i want to fit a 300 tdi engine with automatic gearbox, and because of spares availablity would also like to fit defender axles. that is why the question if anybody has done somthing similar. earl
  12. hi farmer, your writeup seems so easy that i might do this to my 110 defender . the only question is about the vibes,do you think that it might work on the 110 def.? it is my daily driver(about 40000km/year.) earl
  13. has not set their status
