  1. I've done a search of the boards but haven't found any mention of Ken's latest wheeze - the Low Emission Zone (LEZ). I haven't quite fathomed how Land Rovers are rated as commercial vehicles but when I checked my vehicles on the Transport for London site ( http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez ) my 1965 109 was OK but both my 1993 90SV and my 2001 Tomb Raider will be allowed into London for free after 4th Feb 2008 but will have to pay at least £100/day after October 2010!

    Any thoughts, any one?

As I understood it if your TDI was of a CSW type then it was regarded as a private car and was exempt, but if it were hard top or truck cab then it wasn't - maybe the system thinks your tomb raider is not exempt because it was registered before Jan 2002? Even though it is Euro III compliant..

  2. The innards cannot go AWOL, they are trapped inside. If you remove the coil and the two small screws under it you can get the plunger out and remove the foreign matter that is trapped in there causing the leak. The foreign matter is MOST unlikely to have entered through the exposed exhaust port. Most likely is some stray PTFE tape from assembly.

cheers Chris i'll give that a go ;)

  3. Don't put a bolt in the hole as it will block the exhaust of the valve (where the air comes out when you disengage a locker)

A nut and a washer will replace part (2) in the PDF. Make sure the coil is securely held on the shaft, apparently powering the coil when it's not on the shaft causes it to burn out.. Haven't tried this and don't intend to :o

It appears the coil (04) has become dislodged from the valve body (09) at some point and now air is comig through the top nut when the compressor engages which suggests that perhaps the valve stem or plunger have gone awol  maybe i will have to get the complete solenoid valve after all..

  4. Which part is damaged?

The whole solenoid valve (£65ish?) or just the black knurled threaded thing - which is just a fancy nut which holds the electromagnet down on the base of the pipe. In which case could probably be replaced with a nut & large washer. Probably some imperial thread though.

Here's the part's list for the valve: http://www.arbusa.com/alac/alsp/5-07.pdf

Hi Tom it would indeed be the black knurled thing thats the problem or whatever screwed into it before, am i right in thinking i can put any suitable bolt in there and it will do the job?

Rich thanks for the offer i'll come back to you if a trip down B&Q doesnt come up with something

    cheers guys

  5. Had my 90 fail its M.O.T. today, one of the reasons being that the Hazard warning tell tale was not working on the switch itself. Thing is i dont ever remember there being any illumination on the switch itself only on the dash, which does illuminate when the hazards are on..

I found this on an M.O.T. site

A hazard warning device is not required by Regulation, but, if one is fitted, it must be tested.

The hazard warning lamp 'tell tale' may be a separate light or the same as the indicator 'tell-tale. However, it must be a flashing light

surely the light flashing on the dash negates the need for one on the switch.. and does the switch have flashng illumination anyway? Coz if it does i cant rememebr seeing it either onmy current 200 TDI or the previous one, can anyone confirm this?

  6. I have sold four cars and a caravan on ebay, in each case I made it clear (implied) that the car/caravan may be withdrawn and that anyone wishing to come and view could do so and make an offer there and then - try to suggest that an offer would be appropriate rather than say so outright. Each time I have sold to a personal visitor and ended the auction early having sold for a price I was happy with.

The key to successful ebay trading is a good advert. Give all the information as well as the negative aspects of your sale. Add LOTS of pictures, including of any dents, damage etc. That way you come across as an honest guy who is not trying to hide anything. I always include a phone number in my ads.

My last two ads, which attracted personal cash buyers within 3 days, were numbers 320147313721 and 320147335496 if you want to take a look.

    Chris

I'd do what chris says, encourage viewings and suggest you're willing to sell at the right price off ebay..

worked for me selling two motorbikes on there..

  7. I think a lot of people getting into offroading / landies for the first time, go the scorpion route. After all just look at their website, looks a lot more professional than most others and you'd be forgiven for thinking that the service would match. At the end of the day they market their products v. well, unfortunately some of their gear, while looking pretty trick isn't up to the job compared to some of their less well known competitors products

P.S. If you're planning on visiting the showroom to purchase something, make sure you've got a lot of time on your hands... Mail order rules!!

  8. Hurrah, I can drive my V8 109 CSW into London for free! :D

If I could only work out why the hell would I ever want to?

Oh and those Phantom plates are about as likely to work as our public transport system - if you can see it with your eyes the cameras can see it, and they can digitally enhance any bits that they can't see. The cameras can read your tax disc from 100yds, a bit of dodgy plastic isn't gonna phase them. At best you're still gonna get a ticket, more likely you're gonna get stopped by the cops and told to buy some normal plates.

Hmmm, perhaps they only work with Gatso's.. let's see..

  9. My last experience of Craddocks was not a good one. I ordered a boss from them, which I was told would definitely fit a momo wheel for my 200 tdi hard top. Now when i recieved it, guess what - absolutely no chance of it fitting.. Had to send it back to them at my expense, when I requested that they pay for the return shipping was given the total runaround treatment before finally getting them to agree to pay for the shipping. But did they? In a word NO!!

    Not happy

  10. Just read the leaflet http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/LEZ...es-affected.pdf, anyone want to buy a 90?

    Bring on 10/2010 :( . I'll have to get meself a TD5 in a couple of years..

I look forward to the day I can sell my humble house in the smoke for some unfeasably large amount and live in palacial splendour on the outer hebrides. I'm sure the climate there will be tropical in a few years what with global warming being what it is, then again maybe the rest of london will have the same idea :D

  13. if you decide to let a garage do it PM dred90, hes just used a Landy garage in Canterbury (not far from you?)

Yep, take it to Landroversolutions in Canterbury, if you're not doing it yourself. I think it was about £40 / hour on the labour side. V. pleased with the work done on my truck, last time i took it there..
