  1. i wasnt aware that d2 had coils fiited as standard. only bags with ace. the rusty pipe advisary with probably be a one of the pipes for rear ace antiroll bar, these are a real pitfa to fit! especally getting them to seal in the valve block on the chassis. the rear load level sensor have a small limk arm that link to the rear trailing arms which snap, very common. the corrosion adviasary is a worry as d2 suffer badly with rear end of te chassis rotting out, worse that any other LR.

I could be completely wrong about the coil spring thing, I was told the other day that only the 7 seaters had air as standard, 5 seaters coils. Could be nonsense.

So the 'pipes ferrules and ride height linkage' could all be in reference to the air suspension which has been removed, so apart from appearing as a regular advisory shouldn't cause issues with future mot's?

I'll be sure to have a good poke around at her rear end then. I don't want to be buying something that's going to need a lot of attention to the undercarriage.

    O.o

  2. I'm going to look at a 99 td5 auto discovery tomorrow. 5 seater on springs, 138,000 miles.

Looking at the past mot's on the gov website there are a couple of advisory items I don't really understand:

'pipes to rear A suspension furreles corroded'

What are these ferrules and pipes? This has been an advisory for a couple of years.

'nearside rear ride height linkage broken system removed'

Something to do with self leveling on an air spring system? I though 5 seaters had coils as stock?

Also an advisory on slight corrosion underneath. Are the d2 chassis trouble spots much the same as d1s and defenders, ie rear x member, outriggers and suspension mounts?

Anything else to look out for?

    Yes, the sunroofs leak. :D

  3. Can you not just fit a 10p fpr? Is that not what is currently fitted but leaking?

All td5 blocks are the same afaik, so yes any td5 head would fit.

That's what I'm looking into now. Of course, when you have the 15p part sat on the bench you want to make sure you're barking up the right tree before splashing out again.

I'm trying to find someone with the world's best 'spares shed' who fancies a straight swap.

  4. You may have seen my other thread, if not you may still know the answer.

Is it possible that somebody fitted a 10p head to a 15p engine in my truck?

I have a 15p engine number on the sticker on the rocker cover, though that proves nothing.

There is a fuel cooler (15p only?) But a 2 pipe fpr.

Short of taking off the rover cover and checking the colour of the injectors, what else can clue me in on what I have in there?

Also....The truck seems to run ok allowing for the leaky fpr- would that be the case of a 10p head was fitted to a 15p block?

    Soooo confused....

  5. I was just about to fit my FPR, BUT there seems to an extra pipe (or one missing from the old one). I understand it's the fuel return on a 15p which was internal on the 10p.

The truck is an 02, I was careful to order the correct part using the chassis number and came up with the 15p version.

Could there be an older head fitted to the truck? Where should this return pipe go, behind the egr somewhere?

  6. According to the interwebs it wasn't until 2007 that the front facing rear seat were introduced ..... Not sure if sideways were always exempt, perhaps someone like MickeyW would know better?

I can find plenty of information on uk and irish law regarding camper van, but I'm guessing it's a very different story as there is no requirement for any seat belts in the rear on a pre 2007 vehicle. Fitted belts must be worn however.

Different kettle of fish I think.

  7. I bought my current 90 back in 1996 from a good mate in Manchester. The two previous owners being my mate and the Welsh nature conservancy.

A quirk of circumstances meant I ended up married and living here in Wales with said 90, a few farms away from here is a 90, its registration is one digit different to mine (*)

Two previous owners, a guy in Manchester that I went to college with but lost touch with 30 years ago and the Welsh nature conservancy.

    ah well..

(*) Before its cherished plate transfer

Sounds like a conspiracy! Get a tin foil headlining!

  8. I'm betting those rear seats are only to be used while the 110 is stationary and people are sitting in the back with a cup of tea or something. Surely by 2002 side facing bench seats would have had seat belts? Perhaps I'm just being a bit blind ...

That thought had crossed my mind, but then I couldn't remember if I'd seen td5 csws with sideways bench seats in the rear. Also I had it in my head the sideways seats were always 'belt exempt '.

  9. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161793135156&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=web

Just saw this on ebay and even though mine is now irish registeted, i immediately knew it was from the same fleet as mine, which I found strangely thrilling! Sad eh?

I just dug out the old Land Rover extended warranty card which I knew had the UK Reg number on it- just one letter different from the eBay truck! More unusual thrills!

This got me to thinking that originally mine must have had the 4 seat configuration and lo and behold, the holes to mount the bench are present.

My log book states the truck has only 2 seats, making it no good to me as my daily runaround, but I'm wondering now as it had more seats originally i could claim 'grandfather rights' and reinstall them without having to get engineers reports etc (adding rear seats to vans in Ireland is a nono, you have to re register as a Crew cab and would need side doors and a bulkhead etc)

So, after much rambling I'm not really sure what I'm getting at here... :D

Does anybody else own an ex Northern Gas and Electric 110? What was that box in the back with the flammable sticker for? I have exhaust vents in mine so it must have had the box too.

Also, is the eBay truck really worth as much as 6 grand? No mot on it since Jan according to the database.

  10. I tend to use one of these, simple pipe plugged at one end with a slit:

    http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/product.php/115/brake-bleed-tube

Blank the end of the tube with a bolt or something similar, then make a slit in it near the end with a razor blade, stanley knife, etc. The slit will act as a valve and no air will be drawn back.

    Les

So simple it has to work! I'm going to make one of these, and then if that fails order a master cylinder.

  11. Mines not got ABS.

I have a suspicion that its the new master cylinder being duff as the pedal will sink pretty much all the way to where the rear brakes callipers start to kick in, if you pump it really Aggressivly then kinda hold it, it sometimes stays firm, but then all you have to do is lightly lift a tiny bit of pressure off the pedal and it will start to sink again, there's no leaks and for the amount the pedal moves that's gotta be a lot of air in the system to cause just a symptom, as oil isn't leaking out everywhere the fluid must be bi-passing in the master...?

It does sound like we have similar problems. I couldn't believe the amount of air flowing up the pipe from the bleeder.

I'll have another mess about with it today to see if sitting nose up has achieved anything.
