Thanks for the reply. truck has done 113,000miles. What should I be looking for in terms of wear? mine is a 1992 200tdi, is there a UJ at each end of each propshaft?? read somewhere it may be different for some later models... cheers Phil

Hi guys I am experiencing a problem with the drive train on my 200tdi disco. The gearbox crunches into second but this doesn't bother me too much. The problem is that when I lift the clutch, there seems to be a slight pause before drive is engaged. This occurs in any gear and is accompanied by what sounds like a shunting noise/clonk upon taking up the drive (difficult to explain). At first I put this down to the gearbox but now feel this may be the propshaft and or Universal Joint. Could any one recommend a good way to cure this or (if I am mis diagnosing) point me in the right direction... Looking for best and Cheapest option!! Cheers Phil

Yep, looked at night courses but the only one I found in Oxon was £300 for 10 weeks 1 evening per week (OX and Cherwell College)... Pretty steep!! Have looked at Mig welders on ebay but as they are quite dangerous (in inexperienced hands) would like some basic instruction first - do's and don'ts etc... Will have a look on youtube... cheers all Phil

Hey guys Have just bought a 200tdi disco and found rust in the usual places which will need sorting in the future. I am interested in learning to weld and was wondering if anyone was interested in tudoring in the Oxford area (willing to travel)?? If anyone is interested I would be willing to pay for the training and any other costs. Thought I could learn whilst fixing my own car and thus not pay for a night school course... The areas I would like to do are the rear floor (Badly rusted), Sills Not bad but would like rock/tree sliders. Can be flexible as to when and where (evenings and weekends). Based in Cowley. I was hoping to go upto the ridgeway this weekend but it looks like most of the lanes are closed in the winter.. Are there any decent green lanes close to Oxford (within an hour)?? also heard there might be an event at Fulmer this weekend but not sure the discos A/Ts are upto it.. thanks for all the replies...
