  1. As we can see, people start thinking seriously about this solutoin and the mechanisms of a "bypass" Frantz Oil Filter.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPAYMRbGo_E
  2. OK, Folks.... another thread and topic which came out of an interesting dicussion about Landrovers as Electric Vehicles. I experienced this in the 80th with Oil filter systems like the Frantz-Filter (just named here as an exmpale as there exist some other few companies producing and offering such oil cleaning solutions of high sustainability)... The synthetic oils are already of such extreme good quality (since more than 25 years), that never, I really say never you need to do oil exchange. It just needs to filter this oil by a good filter, and it runs, runs, runs... The trick of the petrol and automotive industries is, that they use bad filters, by purpose. They dont offer "particular filters" so all what do the normal fiters, is to filter roughly. So for a normal consumer who pays mostly an expensive credit for his huge expensive car it looks like, that the "black oil" he can see during a regular filter seems dirty and must be exchanged. And naturally this owner is scared to damage his engine. But its an irrational fear being produced by the marketing folks of the car companies. Finest particular filter as existing with the "Frantz Filter" can clean even these "black particulars" (inclusive other parts, e.g. water emulsion) out, so the synthetic oil keeps its function for ever. As the filter steals little bit oil, it just needs to fill up by time with new oil, thats all. The cool thing, every normal car, every truck, every traktor, coach, motorbike or generator can be equipped with such a filter, as it works parallel..... so no expensive costs of adapting the existing mashine... its just built up a parallal circle (thats why it is called "Bypass filter system"). The oil pressure wont change, so no fear to damage the mashine... an owner of a vehicle/motor can safe lots of money to avoid the regular oil exchange (a long life synthetic oil SAE range 0W-30 or SAE 0W-40 actually is between 8 to 12 Euros per litre plus the filter itself is between 8-10 Euros per piece). The filter which looks like toilette paper :-) can be exchanged very simple. Even the old filter which is delivered from the car factory is kept as you can see in this video: (YOu will understand this video without words :-) ) If you have big mashines which needs a bigger volume of oil cleaning, you just combine a couple of filters, very simple.... (Click on the images to get them in big in the pics gallery on the website of Frantz Filter). Such companies like Frantz Filter are tackled heavily by the automotive industries. These big global players arent shy to use even criminal methods to attack such cool inventions and the patent holders as I know. In 1988/1989 I was negotiating with Frantz Filter directly to overtake a representation for German regions... so I know what I am talking about. it was a very brutal time of ongoing fights for surviving as the big auto concerns try everything to kill these kind of products as they can damage their markets heavily. Lawyers can be very nasty folks. Meanwhile Frantz Filter has a big range of solutions.... here a US video: Calculate on your own.... a basic set costs 219 Euro (inclusive Vat) The filter itself costs 12,50 Euros (inclusive Vat) and should be exchanged every 10,000 kilometers (for diesel every 9,000 km) Thats it.

I HAVE SETUP A NEW THREAD HERE ABOUT OIL FILTERS AS I THINK ITS A TOPIC OF OWN COMPLEXITY. IF YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCES WITH SUCH FILTER SYSTEMS, QUESTIONS, CRITICS, PLS Go THERE ! ----- But feel free to keep going here in this thread only about Eco-Solutions, e.g. Electro Vehicles, Air Vehicles etc. ... Tks.
  4. ,,, yes, it had been the decision of the rich ones.... we got a documentary about this question on German TV, and its clear, that the millionair and billionair sons of that time prefered loud, noisy and dangerous car racing with gasoline driven motors. With car racing and medias it attracted the masses and hereby the car got an image how to be: "No Electric". We humans (as race/species) are really stupid till today !!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Alone in Germany anually the number of killed people by soot particles is estimated at round about 100,000 people. Allergic reactions, Circulatory failure etc. ..... Am I the next one ????? Politicans should all come into prison who do not forbid "dirty engines" as killer mashines, e.g. till today in Germany its not a duty for diesel mashines to use filters. Its all about lobbying. We know scientifically the death rate by statistics caused by diesel particles, but the parliament in Berlin does not come into action. The argument: Its up to the people's own decision and responsability to invest in installing an extra particle filter. Is this democracy ? - Why they forbid then Canabis in the own garden ? To come free of their guilty, the German government setup a fund so you get paid round about 200-250 Euro as part payment if you invest in a diesel filter. Yesterday I talked with one of German leading 4x4 offroad traders. They told me, that the prize of a metal filter for Landrover is estimated round about 1500 Euros. For a LR Defender TD5 90/110/130 its such one to give the car a "EURO 3" classification: What nonsense all this ?! - The world would be a better and more healthier place with less noise, less toxic particles in the air having more eCars on the road by sure....
  5. Boyle’s Law: P1V1 = P2V2 Charles’ Law: V1/T1 = V2/T2 Gay –Lussac’s Law: P1/T1 = P2/T2 ---------------------------------------------------------- Combined Gas Law: P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2 Stability -> Lability -> back to Stability .... remembers me my prof about thermodynamic systems :-) I think you talk about this as it is discussed for Poland and its energy future: "Dynamic analysis of compressed air energy storage in the car" By the way.... we talk about a concept, which was already realized in the 90th (20 year ago !!!!) by some ethusiasts like you...
  6. good comment.... yes. Air motors are the best solution at all in my understanding as the "charging" only takes 3 minutes (one filling costs round about 2 Us dollars for a 300 km range). Its done seriously by Motor Development International (MDI) which is settled in Luxembourg - http://www.mdi.lu/english/. Yet the MiniCat Air car has some troubles as it was not introduced in the US market by Tata because of range and heating difficulties - http://bit.ly/151QYF1. MiniCat Air Car... The prize is OK.... beginning from 8000 Bugs (6117 Euros) for it... Tata Motor, India's biggest company generally and leading car/truck manufacturer in India, invested heavily into MDI 5-6 years ago and bought uniquely a production licence for the Indian market.... so I suppose what you mean with "Indian Taxis" are test vehicles by Tata Motors and MDI collaboration... its awesome cool. NO doubt. The Tata Airpod... So it sounds on Indian Television... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h5p3B99GLg As yet the regular petrol stations dont offer such "compressed air tanking" it can be an interims solution, that you have on board a very small air compressor with a small gasoline tank.... while you are parking, the generator fills the tanks with compressed air. MDI is offering a hybrid version with a range of 600 km. Better than nothing I would say. MDI already has city transporters in production... (In this video one can see that the tanks are very safe made of carbon.)They MDI's city hoppers look nice and surprisingly are big. The whole concept of MDI is leightweight.... the air engine only has 24 kg In Israel a company Phinergy is working on a different concept with Aluminium Air batteries. This car needs water and has a range of 1,000 km. :-) Citroen is testing the Phinergy solution. Peugeot Citroen is planning a series with air cars....
  7. Bon appétit ! - Oh, man.... Simon, you are incorrigible, as we say in German. (Seriously: Do you have any pics or link pls ?)
  8. right... with the increasing numbers of humans on this planet over next 10-15 years and the increasing living standard (imagine alone that all Chinese and Indian folks could travel as wealthy Western countries do) would produce huge problems, not to say heavy "troubles". We see it already with the increasing flights and therefore companies like Airbus is producing mega airplanes like the A380 or seeing it with the Cruising ship industries. See the consumption of world biggest cruise ships like Celebrity of Solistic Class (produced in 2012 with 126,000 GT)... next is coming Quantum of the Seas (ready in 2014 with with 167,000 GT). Already today, tourism and travelling takes so fare I remember the latest statistics 15-18% of all environmental pollution as single branch. Mobility is a huge trap for human mankind. No doubt, we have to reduce our hunger for having holidays here and there (watching POlar Ice bears or doing Safari trips to be close to elephants and lions is a real nonsense under ecological aspects, better watching a DVD). Its no more the time to say: I can afford it for me and my family, so lets do it. We have to learn to self-restrict our egoistic habit otherwise even the best environmental protection solutions of sustainabiltiy cannot compensate the increasing numbers of populations... Its really scaring the prognosis to think about the energy consumption, waste production, water pollution.
  9. @Simon: I think o_teunico meant the calculation overall costs. If you calculate the investment of buying a car, e.g. might already exist one you want slaughter and then setup newly as eCar or Hybrid, inclusive working time, buying the tools (already searching for the right solutions might become very time intensive), buying the equipment so fare you dont have an own workshop/garage etc.. the time for studying e.g. reading in this forum or other literature till the installation itself, tests and regularly maintenance... A radical proof of economical efficiency would only be given by taking the "overall costs" I think, not being reduced to the comparison of pure energy costs. :-)
  10. LR with Shelter/5th Wheeler... Modern Interior Design to compensate lack of space ----------------------------- Hi, Folks... as you might have noticed, I am planning a solution where I can use a Landrover as Cargo, Shelter or pickup... yet the decision is not made, as the project is in a very early stage. Generally it might look something like this at the size of 20' Foot length (round about 6 metres) with slide... As combi with a trailer it could look like this: ---- The question now: How to setup an interior which doesnt take lots of space, more it gives free space available ? Couple of days ago I fell over solutions which are designed and created for "narrow spaced areas", e.g. very expensive living ground in NewYork where people cannot afford expensive sized apartements... Ron Barth of ResourceFurniture in N.Y. is presenting some great videos about such multi-functional (or as Ron says: Transformable furniture) solutions, e.g. bunk beds, folding tables etc. ... (More videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/resourcefurniture) Naturally such design is very expensive. So the question: Do you know alternatives (maybe less costly but same functionally) ? Feel free to post what you think it can help to have a comfortable life on the road, same compensating lack of space effectively. I start (as an idea) with a great kitchen solution I like a lot... done by the designer Massimo Facchinetti... (Rec.: Probably I cannot afford on my own, but as Idea giver its not bad at all. Very cool, isnt it ?!) Feel free to post other products you know, bought, have experienced (in good or bad) by using it. All ideas existing in the market from showers, bathrooms/toilettes office/working solutions to dining and sleeping solutions etc. are welcome which can be installed in a "mobile home" (Shelter, container, trailer, camper). - Tks in advance ! :-)
  11. Applaus... :-) If you google little bit and with respect to simonr, here is the link: http://www.4x4offroads.com/electric-land-rover-freelander.html .... and as you can read at the end, its published on the website: http://www.diyelectriccar.com/
  12. oho..... tks "Henk"... that looks pretty cool.... and I must say, the prizes are not low, but same sounds not too expensive... (instead their used LR Defeinders 130 are too expensive). This big back door solution is great.... Same the huge back underfloor slide is an interesting option... Lets see, if this equipment gets a licence for European streets as this company "Nene Overland" is from UK.... :-) Even the Hannibal Tent solutions on that site are great. (The link seems an old broschure of 2008). As I see on the Hannibal website, its a company from Australia. Do exist similar solutions within Europe/UK ? So many tks... :-)
  13. I forgot to mention, that this is not fresh milk... its the milk which is sent back from the supermarkets not being bought within the time limit given by the stamp... so this milk would be thrown away anyhow... :-) The clothes designed and made of this milk textile fibre are the result of a milk recycling process. :-) Generally your critics are right by the basic idea behind.... all "eco processes" must be proofen by its efficiency... but you might know, that since many, many years, I think, its since 15 years, we have a so called normative "eco balance certification" (better known as LCA) where exactly the whole supply chain, R&D (Research & development), natural ressources, recycling and life time of products are analysed deeply and in details... You even must go so fare to analyse the sales structures, logistics and internal office and qualification structures.... e.g. what kind of paper are using the employees, what kind of eco screens, printer colours etc. ... it does not make sense if the "simple workers" use eco friendly processes, and the CEO is flying around with an expensive LearJet just to satisfy his ego or having expensive incentives with his management board (such kind) :-) The ISO 14040 is an effective instrument of proofen environmental management... but unluckily still not used intensively by companies. My personal opinion: regularly all products should be labeled nowadays which can be centralized and documented online being available for everybody. Very easily such certificates could be listed on a website within a database and showing all details of the Eco Balance. And the consumer/buyer could understand what level of eco management is behind. A friend of mine studied environment engineering. He finished his degree in 1996/1997 that time this ISO norms had been part of our dicussions. So seriously I ask: What happened in last 16-17 years seeing the world being destroyed by climate change. We are still fare, fare away from a real environment protection. I suppose there is no right or wrong. Our own life is too short, that we can wait for the perfect solution. We only can try by our own life style to overtake responsability and ask seriously the important questions what might be a good compromise. E.g. I dont have a car since 2002.... I dont need it. For my profession in medias I need now again a vehicle for European wide media prouctoins.... so I have to think seriously about different alternatives, progress of sciences, new technologies.... and how to finance it. :-) No doubt... still a long march to go. "Sustainability" yet is an empty word in many branches. America is working on own standards (who wonders). No yet globalized one world. And so long we create mad solutions to feed our hunger for consumption, there is only little hope... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo4poSqvRHA (payload of one lift: 80 tons) To understand the real dimensions... this clip makes it clear: (PS: To be understood right way... such gigantic mashines as seen in the video are very fascinating. No doubt, its engineering on high level. In that sense we even could say: I am fascinated by perfect long distance weapons.... moral and ethics are what humans need to get their "minds and emotions" under control. In 21st century we need the culture of self-restriction and self limitation and no more self realisiation.)
  14. tks giving orientation... hm.... Giving a "green touch"... show making everywhere. Remembers me the political situation these days in Germany as we soon will have new elections of the government and parliament in September. Today was a press conference by German government and science minister and mininster for consumer protection and nutrition.... they proclaimed a new political programme called "eco economies" (or "Bio based economy") for establishing new industries with products using "bio sources" to replace the dependency from oil, e.g. using farming products to produce plastic or clothes made of plants or milk. These clothes are produced of milk, the element is Kasein the textile fibres are made of... its not a totally new technology, but former processes had been too water intensive. Nowadys the modern methods allow to treat such products as "eco" and "environmental friendly". More details on the website of Qmilk and biologist Anke Domaske who is the designer. Bio products same are used in automotive industries as "bio plastic" (an interesting archive about this term offers the Magazine BioPlastics here), e.g. for seats, covers of engines etc. ... its not totally new as since many years we have regenerative energy sources etc. ... but mainly in Germany over last decades we had the focus on "organic farming" and fighting "air/water pollution", "waste treatment concepts" and "healthy food". So it goes a step forward now to introduce eco products into industrial processes by new funds for bio sciences. The press release of today about the new "Eco Economy programme" and "bio based sciences" is this: http://www.bmelv.de/SharedDocs/Pressemitteilungen/2013/215-Biooekonomie-verstaendlich_erklaert.html (Rec.: Yet I have not found the English version, regularly all news from the German ministery are available in English, too. If you are interested take Google Translation or have a look in couple of days, maybe then the translation is ready.) If one should be interested the German ministry started a specific website/information platform about this "eco economy", Its here: http://bit.ly/13wcWvn
  15. oh.. thats no more a problem. Since many years in yachting sports are used solar panels.... you can glue on the deck and walk on them... Yachts always have the problem to lack of enough energy, especially for transatlantic crossing (which can take up to 2-3 weeks depending on the sportivness of the hul and rigg).... so today with all that electronic equipment like GPS, radar, weather reports, electronic log books written in lapotps such yachts have a highly consumption of electric power (no more navigation with Sextant)... There are many producers and products in the market to guarantee such robustness which is needed in rough seas, probably more rough than off-road.... http://www.solarlink.de/solarmodulegb.htm
  16. @simonr: Tks for sharing.... I was really surprised to meet here one who has already made the decision. OK, not based on LR *laugh*, but generally we have to become more "eco" to save our planet, no doubt and no way around referring the limited ressources of oil (and herefore seeing all the bloody crime, wars and violence in the middle east) its a really silly and stupid solution to believe, that petrol/gas driven vehicles have a future. Having fun with an off-road vehicle like LR is one thing, but higher priority has responsability for the environment and our future generations. Maybe you can complete your interesting report and arguments (+/-) with the aspect of "economy". How much you paid for your eCar ? - What are the running costs ? - And how about recycling after your eCar did its job ? ----------------------------- In my understanding as I know only little bit abt this thematic we should have a re-chargable solution on board of a car as we cannot offer everywhere such eTanking stations like Bosch is testing for inner city areas. I wonder, why Landrover does not test solar panels on the roof, which might charge the car during parking front the supermarket, restaurant or during 8 hours working time. Something like this: I know some concepts of companies, who switched completely to eCars for their whole fleet.... so the parking places front the company building look like this... (in the pic it has a capacity of 60kW and is produced by company SOLON) Even workers can park their private cars, and charge their vehicle over the day. The loading station (I dont think, thats the correct word) is only maintained with Solar panels. In some of such progressive companies the workers already use eScooters they can charge there. During work the eMotorBike is fully recharged. Optically they look like a normal scooter, same elegant design like those of company Govecs... Some tests with Solar tents during longer parking times look little bit "OUTER SPACE"... I suppose the efficiency of the Solar cells is still the "bottle neck" of this concept, isnt ? How many square metres would be needed to charge within 4 hours (that would be really a good space of time). As you said, a range of round about 100 kilometers with one charge unit is enough for most car drivers.... I think, only for long distance drivers like sales staff who must visit clients and driver per year maybe 60,000km need a hybrid version as they drive daily around 200 km. For inner city solutions I even would say: We should think more about eBikes.... as we already have a tendency with Rent-a-Bike solutions in some cities that its the best vehicle for short distance (5-10 km) using it just 20-30 minutes, and then leave it at one of the stations... In Hamburg, hanseatic City we already have many of rent-a-bike stations.... its very low cost: Every of thse red bikes (its not yet ebikes) has GPS connection, so you can see on a website (or via app on a mobile phone) already which station has bikes available free you can reserve/book and pay via credit card. - I think, such stations easily can setup solar recharging solutions to offer eBikes, too. it could help to avoid the traffic collaps of inner city areas. It could even look beautiful as an eye catcher... (a solution by Japanese company Kyocera which creates up to 1.14 kWh per unit/station and even offers the charing over night being connected with the regular electricity net via AC-DC Converter). The (Snail Mail) Post in Switzerland is using eBikes for their staff to deliver the letters to the homes...
  17. found this today.... Landrover Defender as eMobile... it was presented during the Automobile show in Genf (Genova) this year (7th-17th March) ---- The so called Defender EV (Electro Vehicle/Version) at maximum speed of 70 mph (= 112 kmph) is equipped with Lithium-Ion rechargable batteries (weight: 410 kg, 300v, 27kWh) which run an eMotor of 95 horse powers of 330 Newton metre (which is available from the beginning you kick the pedal). e-Cockpit... (for big size click the thumbnail images pls), Speedometre, eBlock... (Source: Drive Review @ Autocar) The batteries shall guarantee 8 hours driving (slow tempo) off-road.... will be recharged in 4 hours (fast charger) and the downhill breaking energy is flowing back for recharging the battery, too. It even shall be possible to drive through 80 centre metre deep waters (see the video, bottom). Did anyone drive it as LR has built 7 test vehicles ? - What do you think about the future of "off-road cars" as e-Version with "0 emission" ? - Would you buy it ? - And what are you wiling to pay ? - It might still give off-road-feeling (without skinky Diesel or engine noise)... So it looks on the street and off-road-terrain.... maximum distance with one charge unit: 80 km on regular streets
  18. Tks for the tip... generally I like this kind of concept... Little bit lots of space stolen by using this thick wood. Might be better to use steel or alumnimum frames where I can store in the different flight case sizes.... (Mainly we have such kind: http://www.theflightcasecompany.com/live-sound-pa/rack-flight-cases/ ) How fare would you go with a bet at ebay ? The seller expects a minimum of £7,295.00 plus Vat = 8389.98 Euro plus vat. Can anyone tell which company built such kind regularly as you say that it is quiet common in UK ? - Tks in advance.
  19. @Bushpig110: What do you mean with costly ? :-) Yet I am not an owner.... but as posted, I think about... :-) so would be good to know before what are the running costs, annually maintenance etc. .... for giving any orientation tks.
  20. tks to @tacr2man, @Bushpig110 and @ejparrott. Ebay seems very expensive... so I have checked directly the German market and specific web platforms ( e.g. see www.mobile.de ) Here is a Land Rover Defender 130 Td5 Crew for 6.690 EUR, 1st hand, built in 10/2001, 156.494 km and a Diesel engine with 90 kW (122 hp) Another one is this Land Rover 130 200TDI, with a shelter... for 8900 Euro, built in 1991 with 180,000 km and a 79 kW (107 hp) Diesel engine The 2nd one looks little bit crappy and too expensive for a 22 year old vehicle. Here is another one, little bit more expensive, but with hard top... Land Rover Defender 130 Td5 at a prize of 12,000 Euro (negotiatable), built in 01/2000, 180,000 km and a Diesel engine with 90 kW (122 hp)
  21. tks to all the folks here.... yes, seems risky to burn own hands :-) So better to search on a private market.... I asked about LR because I am looking for a chassis which might be setup then with a kind of "cargo" function.... similar what I have seen in Poland, it is setup as a LR Defender for Mountain Rescue: I will ask my question then within a new thread here: What the best chassis would be for ! - Pls answer there if you have any ideas/suggestions. Tks so fare giving me feedback here about this "military source stuff". It was really helpfully (and by my instinks I was not totally wrong my alarm clocks ringed loudly) :-) - Enjoy your day !
  22. Hi, folks.... I fell over a nice solution in Poland.... so I ask about LR (Defender) because I am looking for a chassis which might be setup then with a kind of "cargo" function.... What I have seen in East Europe is this. Its a LR Defender for Mountain Rescue. Very nice indeed: So do exist "used ones" in Central Europe (I am settled in North Germany) ? - What would be the best chassis for to load different flight cases in such a cargo shelter :-) . And can the crew/front cabin be setup as 3 seater ? All kind of ideas are welcome. Tks in advance. :-)
  23. Hi, Folkies.... I just fell over this source to get used Army LandRovers.... so I just wanna ask if somebody has experiences with this trader ? Its "The Rocket Site" and "Army-Uk.Info". They say something about: "Ex ARMY UK" (probably the official firm name) has 55 years experience. Seems they have plenty of LRs... (Rec.: Looks like LR heaven *laugh*) Very impressive indeed... They offer on their site different LandRovers and RangeRovers... go here and select on the right side "LandRover" and hit GO. And you find something like this (Land Rover series III 109 LWB Softtop): Even for export outside of UK/EU... like these: - Who's behind "The Rocket Site", "Army-UK.INfo" and "Ex Army UK" ? - Does Army-uk.info gives guarantee ? - What about the prizes ? - Is it just luck like in lottery or roulette to get a good LR from there or do they check every car they get in before putting on the sales list ? etc. etc. etc. .... I wonder the "good shape" of the cars.... ... same with trucks. Seems they polish up every vehicle (just show making ??) Pls share your experiences. Tks in advance. :-)
  24. ... about the Cargo Coach concept I did a posting here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=84059&page=2#entry723293 (If you like pls have a detailled look at the Blue Volvo Coach (you find there the link to the pics gallery). They are a racing team, too.)
  25. @FridgeFreezer: Nothing to say against your arguments... I am a big fan of "simplyfing your life" :-) which does not mean, that I cannot enjoy my eyes by beautiful handcraft and qualitatively good art work. :-) We "radio people" are not "eye focussed". Luckily... theoretically we could sit in a sleeping dress (pyjama), unshaved and nobody cares how we look (fat slim, overweigth etc. ...). What counts is what we have to say behind the microphone. ;-) So we are little bit different from the eye-catchy visually oriented colleagues from TV departements where all has to be "blinky" so fare the budget allows :-) Most important is to have good people around... that they feel comforable within the simplicity of solution, have all tools available to work professionally and to feel relaxed, focussed and motivated to be part of the project. :-) In our radio channel we run everything very simple since years... and we have a different spirit there as we are part of a media campus... http://www.flickr.com/photos/imconair/ Functionally its same as you know it from the big broadcaster, nothing different. But we can say by calculations, its low budget oriented which helps to be focussed on the relevant things... So I work since 2005... :-) Same my "on the road project" will run... only one correction: its not a commercial project, its a social project behind ( see: http://www.imcradio.net/about ) which does not means we may allow us mis-calculations *laugh*. :-) Tks anyhow for your critical feedback. Dont worry.... its exactly going as you suggested.
