  1. Hello Lucy here, I am a little disappointed to hear these negative comments and I really don't want it to put people off coming to our events. Also negative comments like this could put off new people entering further rounds and obviously we need to have as many competitors as possible. I know this is a competition but the clue is in the title 'Clubman', I really don't want people coming away feeling annoyed with anyone or anything to do with a event we are hosting. We do have a lack of marshalls which makes it quite difficult for everyone to be monitored at all times so if there is anyone that wants to volunteer their services that that would be appreciated so we can try to eliminate these issues. I would also appreciate it if people would tell me of moans they have, this is the first I have heard of it and I would like to try and nip it the bud in future. You can call me of better still inform me or a marshall on the day and I will have a word!

I think it may be a testosterone thing!!!!!

To be honest- it was such a one off experience throughout both events that we have done that i thought was a little 'silly'. The events are superbly managed, and I am in no way trying to put a downer on the day!

We are more than happy to volunteer our services for Slindon for marshalling in August. We can supply 3 or 4 vehicles with drivers if that helps things.

We certainly learned a great deal from these events, and hope they long continue! It is one of those things that a couple of misunderstandings can occur when under time pressure- and a couple of novices hanging on a wire up a sheer face can clog things up for the experienced chaps.

  2. Big thumbs up to the organising team and the marshalls, but still a bit disappointed that there are some teams who really don't give a damn about the tape and the other teams. I know it's a competitive event, but it's no excuse for bad manners and practically bullying others out of their way to make all of 10 seconds difference!!

I agree with that- We were having some OBVIOUS difficulty winching up a hill after an event, and another chap decided to block the way and start doing the punch we had just finished, before we had left the area! This left us in a potentially dangerous situation had our winch rope snapped- we would have rolled right on top of him! We had just snapped a front halfshaft and that kind of rushing behaviour just wasn't needed. We will be giving mr purple a wide berth if we do an event again!

We have decided to marshall the next event if needed- as the car cant take any more of the beatings- especially as it is sibbos main vehicle!

Overall it was a great day- and the evening before was superb too- I have never seen such a big bottle of Jack! Good skills Paul!!!

Still really impressed with the coach too! Still laughing at the thought of you guys driving it through Petworth! Must have been like trying to squeeze a hippo through a cat-flap!

  3. very oddly i too was on the way back from newbury and had exactly the same problem as you.

My gearbox too was low on oil and my input shaft broke.

Think the only way to tell is to have the unit out.

Bloody hell! Am really Mildly miffed at it going after having it a week! not impressed one bit.

Did you take yours apart to find that out? was it a sod to fix it?

  4. Coming back from Newbury after picking up tyres, we were on the motorway doing about 60mph. Suddenly, there was a bang and a massive grinding noise from the box.

Now recovered home. Cant get any sort of drive at all. Can put it into any gear without putting clutch in, and doesn't make any difference whether in high or low box or with difflock on. For this reason, i am confident that this isn't a halfshaft!

As i can move the transfer lever normally, i am assuming that it isnt the lt230 transfer box.

My conclusion is that the gearbox was low on oil in the first place (although was supposed to be checked by a mechanic when i bought it last friday), and has stripped the input gears. Am i right in thinking this? Has anyone had a similar problem with these??

Will be ringing a certain garage in the morning to discuss ways forward with this as i dont think it is unreasonable to expect that a car you have paid top whack for to work after a week of ownership!

    To be continued . . .

any advice greatly welcomed with regards to the gearbox diagnosis

  5. I am removing the 2 inch lift from my rrc as it rolls far too much for everyday use. I have a set of springs to go on, but no shocks other than the ones on the car already with the lift. If i fit the springs, are the shocks going to be too long to be safe?

  6. Cheers, just hope I have not bought a shed, looks well in the photo's.

I have got it at what I think is a cheap price but it has a short MOT so could be into a few more quid there

I am not mechanically minded at all so anything it needs it will have to be done in a garage no doubt at great expense.

Once I have got this one through a test I plan on buying a really cheap one that I can strip and use for off road and also hopefully learn how to work on them.

it isnt a problem that he has removed the viscous fan- as long as it has some sort of cooling fan system. The air-con is likely to be shagged anyway so dont worry about it.

One real tell tale that it is a rust bucket is to try and remove the plastic panel in the footwell next to the pedals. One of mine had mostly fresh are here and i didn't spot it until MOT time.

    Post some photos for us

  7. Hi all,

New to the site and wondering if you could offer me any advice?

I am looking at buying my first classic Range Rover, the one in question is a 1989 G Vogue SE Auto 3.5 EFI with 120K on the clock.

Anything I should look for in paticular or any known common faults etc etc?

Any advice at all would be great and I will post some pics and further details when I get it.

    Thanks

    Andy

rear crossmember behind bumper is a favorite for rust. Also front inner wings, rear wheelarches, and outriggers as per any landrover need to be checked.

Engine wise, listen for tappet noise- shouldn't be too loud after a few seconds running (they are hydraulic and take a few secs to settle). Check the gearbox for changin up and down ok. Also listen for scrabbling when slow moving with full lock- this one will have viscous coupling in transfer box and when kippered it will lock up permanently.

otherwise- usual checks such as chicken soup in the oil filler / header tank - headgasket symptom.

Best of luck- let us know how you get on
