Is that not an oil level plug top right of pic on rear if it is brass with a seal under it that would be my bet.

-
What engine check your oil level as when you do em stop oil might be lost from pump inlet some sumps have a baffle in to stop this.
Indicators could be the column switch.

Usually on the gauge clamps lots of them then 1 wire away to earth
-
The earth for the dash lights needs cleaning .
-
Probably a bad earth behind dash.
-
Clip at that point usually for speedo cable.
-
Is the sender a white plastic item if so one is not used others earth and gauge.
-
Clutch pipes usually come off ok give a quick wipe behind the union nut with a wire brush and puts some release oil around where the pipe goes through .
-
Sounds like a slight leak on fuel lines / connections , ie air getting in over night once running diesel flows ok.
Have a good look around for signs of diesel weeping.

If you click on the items in the link I sent it tells you who has them in stock but prices where silly money

Had a bit of time today so did some calcs of cylinder volumes.
For 3/4 master cylinder on 10" SLS set up 4.6mm of master piston travel moves each piston 1mm
For 1" master cylinder on same set up only 2.6mm of travel needed
Not so simple to calculate volume for dual circuit master as connecting rod reduces volume of fluid being moved in that section of master cylinder .
-
Even the size of cylinders does not necesarily help as 10" are dual acting where as 11" are two single acting. You need some one clever with maths who can calculate the voume of fluid required to move the brake piston to the point of contact.
-
Front single cylinders on 10" brakes are larger than the rears does the master cylinder you have have two different diameters so that front and rear brakes get the correct amount of fluid so that they all apply evenly.
Ie if both the same bore rears will come on 1st as less fluid needed.

I made this up to allow me to connect an air line to the heater plug holes on a 200tdi .
consists of an old glow plug with the end cut off and inards removed 8mm pushfit fitting attached for airline. [/url]">http://http://s1359.photobucket.com/user/61Doug_Palmer/media/200di/DSCF2806_zpse26654bc.jpg.html'>
Depending on what type of glow plugs you have fitted maybe can do similiar.

Has the sender been fitted with some sort of sealant on the threads?
-
These where some readings I got when testing my sender in water , has the engine got a good earth.
Temperature 18 56 100C
series sender 323 118 56 ohms -
Take it out and examine should be closed when cold , immerse in pan of water and heat should open at it's set point .

When at idle the layshaft is also turning as it is permanently coupled to input shaft , thus other gears on mainshaft are also turning just not coupled to drive it.
Been going to cut an old box open for ages so that I can make innards viewable for a video showing what turns when !
