  1. went out this morning and rear drivers side was right down on my TD5, so wife took other car in a hurry. I pumped it up on lift supension and it has levelled off at the moment.

Am I right in saying the air spring is clapped or is it one of thse little quirks that sometimes they collapse overnight? in which case ignore it!

I guess it needs a new air bag, probably 2 on basis the other probably is not far behind!

  2. I think what you need is the complete side panels from rear boot with boxes inbuilt. I would try a search on Breakeryard.com, find-a-part.com etc etc and if you detail colour you have a fair chance of getting what you want from a stacked car. Most people are seeking the extra seats to add so not a fast seller!

I'm amazed what can be found this way.

Get your dealer costs first though so as to know how much to pay!

  3. I have contacted a chap I know about possibly tinkering with the mapping on my TD5 and this was his response for a modest remap without going wild. Have any of you tried this? what were the results and does anyone know of obvious disadvantages??

I guess the drivetrain etc should be well up to the little extra power because petrol V8's are a lot more powerful anyway. It seems like a no brainer to me.

    Cheers

"With regards to the TD5 I have remapped many of these, there a several different levels of mapping available for this vehicle. Personally I would recommend 35bhp, 70nm torque, this will liven up the vehicle and with these increases in power you should see around 3mpg improvement and with all the price increases on fuel every mile counts."

  4. if it can be coaxed to hi 20's I will be satisfied!.......part of the reason I bought it was to combine a daily car and another purely toy vehicle for my hobbies on the basis it will be cheaper, the extra truck is a 2.8TD Frontera which it has to be said is significantly more economical and not noticeably slower. If it starts using too much fuel the extra car is justified!

  5. with regard the 75mph cruise I tend to agree it is too fast in an ideal world.......but not sure where some of you guys live. Sadly, and whilst it is annoying my car get's a good deal of use on the M25/A3m and at anything under 70-75 on a well running road you are in the left lane doing battle with lorries at 55, trailers, and worse with every slip on a stream of cars crawling in front of you come hell or high water without so much as a thought to slipping in at the same speed. I am convinced driving a little faster and away from this lot is a major contribution to road safety! One thing is for sure at 75mph you do not get near lane three unless it is a very busy road......you would have a dose of headlights as a euroblob bears down on you from the distance to a distance you can only see the roof out the rear door at 90 plus.

  6. all very interesting, in the real world with enthusiasts who have an interest in their cars they do less (or at least people know what they do!) mpg than the usual reply of 30-31!

The other interesting fact is the one car getting more has been chipped, which I know is the case with my old 406Hdi Pug which also do better chipped. At 15K annual mileage about £275 fuel saved so depending who does the chipping at what cost perhaps it is a no brainer!

  7. ok, to be honest thats what I would have expected BUT before I bought one everybody said 26-27 auto and 29-30 manual. I have a 2000 manual and just got 26-27, but it was very cold I guess!. As to fast runs, not caning it...about 75mph.

perhaps mine not so bad! any other feedback appreciated.

  8. I feel sure this one has been aired before, but having just got my TD5 I would be interested to hear what mpg other owners are getting. Genuine figures, not the rose tinted type!

I have just filled up for the second time and am a little disappointed with what it achieved, longish runs too. Looking forward to your thoughts

  9. thanks for that, it is very curious. Funny thing is today it opened......and the temperature had lifted! Only had this one a week and it is the first warmer day. I shall change the plipper batteries too just in case, they can be odd things!

  10. Hi, I have just got my TD5 discovery and it has a curious Alarm/locking issue. It all works fine except for first thing in the morning it will not "plip" and i have to insert the key, unlock/lock it again, then it plips fine all day until the next morning! Very odd........anybody had this and discovered what it is??
