  1. Hi to all Is there anyone who can tell me how to get the rear headrests off a D4. they are bog standard. The hand book says hold the button in that allows it to be adjusted and continue pulling up.This is the way I have always removed them on other cars. I have tried this and they are solid. There is no way they will come up any further let alone come out.
  2. Hi I would like to have a second set of wheels for my D4. I spend quite a bit of time off road during the winter, not extreme, but sometimes challenging, when I take my gundogs out to work. I am currently on 255 55 19 and am looking at 16 or 17's with a 70 profile so that I don't upset or confuse the cars settings. Do the smaller wheels off some earlier discos fit the hubs on the D4's and is there anyone out there who has done anything similar who can advise.
  3. Hi to all. I have recently got rid of my old lady (S 3 109) and am now the proud owner of a 12 plate D4. I have had it a month now and the big daft grin has not gone yet. However, I know only to well that the one thing that will get rid of it is if something goes wrong. With that in mind I would like to take out a Warranty insurance. My local garage, who are well respected and have a very good reputation, have told me they have a couple of regulars who use the AA package and have had various claims of differing amounts honoured without any flack. Have any of you guys got any advise or recommendations. Would be grateful for anything you have got. I am thoroughly enjoying this vehicle and would like to continue doing so. Cheers Phil
  4. Thanks for this, it is a little confusing, but the right questions in the right places should clear it up.
  5. I have just become the proud owner of a D4. She who must be obeyed says if the stupid smug grin has not gone by the end of the week she will send it back!!! I will be pulling a caravan with it, a new Lunar, which is on the 13pin. The motor has 12N & 12S fitted. Rather than get the adapter I would like to put a 13 pin socket on it. It is a 12 plate and I think the two 12's have been plugged into the manufacturers loom. Will it be as simple as unplugging these and plugging in a 13. Has anyone out there done this already.
  6. cheers guys. sorry forgot to say it is a series 3. you have all confirmed what my early general search said. Have got a spare box so will chuck it on and then look at sorting this one. why the hell these small springs couldn't have waited for another month when the season ends before they decided to break. Have got three working spaniels all sat looking at me wondering why I am not lying under it and swearing a lot. Phil
  7. whilst driving today 3rd and 4th decided to stop playing. No crunching or grinding, just stopped working. Got the floors out and tunnel off, nothing amiss. 3rd and 4th selector rod wants to move but something internally seems to be stopping it. there is a little bit of bounce, thats to say it is not a solid stop but the gears just won't select. Any ideas or even better some pics of how it might be fixed.
  8. Yep, bang on guys, some gentle application with a knocking stick and some oil and all is well. Many thanks
  9. thats a great starting point, many thanks for your time and knowledge guys. Will report back when I have investigated
  10. Is there anyone out there who can suggest why my red stick only seems to want to positively engage when the yellow is pressed down. I tried to select low 4 the other day and the stick came back to the neutral but no further and it would not go back to high. It will however slip positively into either so long as the high 4 is down. When in high 4 and the red forward as is normal and you pull the red back into neutral, the yellow pops up as you would expect, but the red is then stuck in neutral and refuses to go in either direction Hope I am making sense
  11. hi, my first thought was the head gasket but when i took the head off the gasket was in good order with no signs of leakage between any of the different holes so i replaced it and then flushed the cooling system until there was no signs of any oil but after a week of gentle use there was definitly oil in the top of the rad.
  12. 2.5 NA sherpa in a S111 hi. i have oil leakage into the cooling system, where could it be coming from? the head gasket is sound and the engine runs and pulls beautifully. could the block have gone porous or is there a something that could be causing it that can be fixed.
  13. can anyone tell me if the thinner bolts down the nearside of the head should be done up to a lesser torque than the rest and is there an actual torque setting for the different stages or do you have to use the angle technique?
