  1. Unfortunately NFU said they wouldnt insure my car cos it had a roll cage  also i heard they dont give salvage retention :o

It must be down to the Agents with NFU. When I skidded on some deisel in my 90 and ended upside down in a ditch, they offered me £3000 + the car back in settlement. Needless to say I took them up on the offer as the 90 was a 1986 2.5Td.

  2. Anyone know how long it takes to change a clutch? I've been told by the garage they need the car for 2 days :( I know it's a big job, but when I've changed clutches before, it was nothing like that long, just a few hours

Bloke who did my last Discovery clutch takes 4 hours. I must admit he does fit them all the time (does a lot of work for Ashcrofts). So I can't see why they would need it for 2 days.

  3. They only say commissioned by someone qualified. In which case you could save yourself some money by wiring it up yourself and getting a qualified person to check it.

For power points you need 2.5MM Twin and Earth wired up in a ring main. For lighting you can either use 1MM twin and earth or 1.5MM twin and earth. Personally I would run the upstairs as one ring main and the downstairs as another. The cable to lay underground needs to be Steel Wire Armoured and either 4MM wires or 6Mm wires.

  4. Just MHO but don't bother with the Series 3, 90 and 110 club and don't bother with the Discover Owners club. I have been a memebr of both clubs and they do very little offroading. The Phoenix Club started out as members of the Discovery Club but they parted company due to some political issues within the club. That's also one reason I'm not interested in joining a club. The Shire Club do seem to be very good and there is a part of the Shires Mafia who make good contributions to this forum as well.

BTW I wear Glasses does this make me inadequate :P

  5. I have an Xeng split charge. The way it works is when the Alternator starts producing 12v through the warning light wire it connects the 2 batteries together. So all I need to do is use a switch to provide 12v to actuate the split charge relay and the batteies are connected. I can now start the car off the second battery. Or am I missing something ?

  6. I have a 1996 90. I have just changed the rear door on it but, the existing door handle is about to break (badly corroded). I have a spare door handle that I can swop over but, I don't have the keys for the lock. So I was hoping to swop the existing lock with the one on the spare. Any idea how I get the lock out without any keys ?

    TIA

  7. Does anybody know where I can get some paint of the right colour to make it look a bit smarter?

Is this rope okay to use with the winch or do i need to invest in some bowrope/plasma?

I recently purchased some paint for mine. It's almost an exact match. I'll get the number for you tonight when I get home.
