  1. I’m not sure what to do next so I’ll tell you the problem and what I’ve done so far. My car – 52plate TD4 automatic wouldn’t start and the RAC said it was the fuel pump. It went to a garage where it had the connections on the pump cleaned up as they were dirty. It started and has done ever since. Now there is a problem changing gears. If I’m at a stand still and floor it, the revs will go up but the car will crawl along. If I take it steady the car will change up ok. If I’m driving at speed and again try to accelerate hard it used to kick down and pull away nicely. Now it will only rev high with no gear change at all. I took it to a garage and they plugged it in to a scanner to see if it had a fault code. It came back with P1260 – Delivery fuel pressure management. He cleared the code and I took it for a drive but it was still the same. He re-connected it and the fault code was back. He typed the fault code into autodata and it came back with a different fault – P1260 Fault location -Engine disabled by PATS. Problem cause – Incorrect/damaged key, wiring, immobilizer defective, ECM. I have no idea what I should do now. The car drives ok as long as I don’t need any quick acceleration. What should I do? Thanks in advance for your help and advice
  2. My wifes 52 plate TD4 wouldnt start today so she called out the RAC. He crawled underneath the drivers side and gave a couple of bangs on something. It started. He said it was the fuel pump. My question is, is this someting I could do myself considering I am no mechanic but will give anything a go. Has anyone done this themselves and if so can you give me some tips on what to do. Cheers all
  3. Last week I took off the down pipe section of my exhaust. The new piece was only delivered a couple of days ago. Now the problem is that getting it out was a complete fluke and for the life of me I can’t seem to manoeuvre the new piece into place. Are there any hints, tips or tricks to enable me to do this as I spent a good couple of hours underneath the truck trying? It’s like one of those metal coil puzzles!!!!!!!
  4. I'm thinking of putting bucket seats in my 90 300TDi and have found some on ebay which look quite nice. Just one question though - It looks like the seats I've been looking at are not the reclining sort, so would that mean I would need to move the battery to the back of the truck? Also I've heard of people putting in MG Rover seats, has anyone done this and what were/are they like to put in?
  5. Ok this is a little vain but I have a Defender 90 300Tdi that I’d like to do up to look good. It’s my main car and use it mainly for everyday use with the occasional trip into the middle of fields and forests for my field sport. What I’d like to do is put some nice big yellow springs on her. Can someone recommend a set? I don’t need a lift kit but also don’t want to lose the height she sits at already (standard I think) but thought the yellow springs would look kind of good on her. Also just to keep the thread interesting what would you do to her to make her look better?
  6. By the sounds of it, I have something rattling around in the mid section of my exhaust. I've just got underneath it and gave it a bang and there is definitely something in there. If I were to remove this section is there anything I would need to enable me to put it back on properly i.e. a gasket of some sort.
  7. I’ve just noticed that my brake warning light comes on every now and then. It happens mostly when I go around corners or accelerate but if I take my foot of the power the light goes out. It sounds like a brake fluid issue to me but as I have NO mechanical knowledge at all I thought I would just check. If the pads need changing as they squeal from time to time is it a straight forward job that I could do? Cheers all Defender 300 Tdi 1995
  8. I tried at my local dealers but the key I have is so worn that it either didnt work or it just fell out of the barrel once it had started(after 10 minutes of wriggling it around). I'll give it a go with the drill tomorrow.
  9. Hello all. I've just bought my very first Land Rover Defender, Its a 1995 90 300 TDI. It only came with one key for the ignition so I decided to buy a new steering lock column/ignition barrel. The only problem is I cant seem to punch out the old shear bolts. I've taken off both the upper and lower cowlings and am trying to punch them upwards if that makes sense. Is there anything I am missing or does anyone have any hints or tips on how to do this. Also the drivers side mirror is beyond repair so again I bought a new set. Now I have no idea about cars so I am learning as I go along(haynes manual in the post very soon ). To take off the complete mirror assembly, do I need to take out the screws on the hinge of the door and then bend the hinge back to get to the screws of the mirror housing? Thanks for all your help and advice in advance.
