How much have you stripped it down?
Front and rear crankcase oil seals?
New gaskets on assembly,
rocker cover gasket,
clutch,
clutch idler bearing, get the metal type as the plastic ones can over heat!
What are the belts like?
full service of oils and filters,
entire vehicle!
Where do you want to stop?!?
Cheers

Afternoon Roly,
What was the gasket that came off? How many notches? I was told that most gaskets fitted were the 3 notch, someone on here may correct me on that!
I had the head skimed as you never get a flat head really! it has been known to fit the head back on without skimming but generally leads to blowing again soon.
As i had the head skimed i put in the 4 notch gasket to compensate.
Cheers

having just put a 200tdi in mine, i swapped the sender out of the old 2.5na diesal and screwed it straight in on the 200tdi with noty probs.
When the thermostate opens up it reads right in the middle of the guage, no probs at all!!
Hope this muddies the water!!

I drilled holes in my crystal lenses to let the water out, trying to seal stuff like that is like herding cats. Just don't drive into water with your lights on and you're OK.
Good point, but that's a bit sensible. where's the fun in that!!
Can't beat driving through 3 feet of water in the dark, is that why things keep breaking???

hi there,
Just a word of warning with the Halogen uppgrade!
Go carefull if offroading and wading, if that's your sort of thing. The reason i say that is that i found them very difficult to seal the bulb in, they therfore kept filling up with water and blowing bulbs when offroading. It ended with me putting the sealed beams back in due the amount of money i was spending on bulbs!
Put four spots above the thw windscreen, that'll help you see where your going!!
Cheers

I'd agree with the guys above, but....
I had the same problem with mine after periods of offroading, and wading. I got the hose pipe out when i got home and washed the dirt out out. This cured the problem and it's been fine ever since!!
Bit random but worth a go!!!

Hello,
Landrover did make some vehicles for the Judge Dred film of which the vehicles ended up a Goonhilly in cornwall for a while.
From the photo the cage that has been made looks similar to the body shape.
I may be wrong - it has been know ocasionally!

Afternoon all,
I think i may know the anser to this already but just wanted to get some opinion before I charge in.
I have a 200tdi that has done about 80K on the clock, it is nicely placed in my 1984 '90.
However, i have a puffing noise coming from the back of the block around about the headgasket!!!
Is there a chance/hope that it could be something else?
Also if i were to pay someone for the privilage of changing it, how much it is likely to cost?
Anyone want some beer money??
Many thanks
Neil

I did mine on tinternet, wasn't too difficult at all,
With regards to the bull bar on the front, my mate has just been asked to remove the bull bar from his series 3 as it was dangerous.
However.... they have allowed him to fit a winch to the front!

Morning all!!
Im in the prossess of doing another 200 swap, but this time it's to replace a 2.25 petrol.
I have covered everything (i think!) in the engine bay, but i was wondering about theglow plug warning light.
Do I need to change the dash console or are the wires behind somewhere?
By the way: Just taxed my 90 with a new 200tdi lump in it and its going good , Thanks Les for the spot on info!!
Many Thanks

Tom,
I have just put a 200tdi disco engine into my 90. origannally a 2.5d n/a
I did not change the flywheel housing off the disco engine at all.
The flywheel housing on the disco engine has all the holes drilled for fitting to the 90 gearbox, they have just not been tapped out to accomodate the stud.
As i removed the old engine/gearbox/transferbox in one i was able to work out which holes i needed to tap out. These holes are an M10 metric course (standard) thread.
If you work out which holes you need you can then move the studs (rob some from the old engine if needed) into the new holes
There is NO NEED to REMOVE the flywheel and start swapping flywhell housings!!!
Many thanks

I am looking to purchase some areials that i can use off road without being bent.
All the ones i have seen seem to be a bit whippy!! pardon the expression!!
I have heard that there are some availiable in Australia that are a bit more substantial.

hello again!!
i have currently purchased a spanking 90 with a 2.25 pertrol enigne.
i am thinking about upgrading to either a 200 or 300 tdi.
Any suggestions which one is better? does the 300 have an ECU?
At this stage i want to assume that money is grown on trees and so the tech pro and cons are welcome.
Many thanks

Sounds conclusive guys,
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for that,
stripping the carb down seems to be a good idea, I have never done one before but I have just done a 200 conversion on my other 90 so i think with the haynes book of myths and legends It should be ok.
fuels on the red so new fuel and redex is on its way.
the webber option sounds good but 70 is plenty fast enogh to try and stop at thanks, maybe someone has an anchor i can trow out the back!
