Hi Mark Thanks for the info, the head looks flat to me, I can see that you might not see a crack in the head but can you tell me where you can get it pressure tested? Did this fix yours with no further problems? Cheers Norman

After 4500 trouble free miles towing the caravan on the continent with my Disco tdi300 Automatic it suddenly started smoking from the bonnet and cut out 50 miles from home!! I pulled off the road and under the bonnet there was water everywhere. The AA guy arrived, just said 'head gasket' and recovered us and the 'van home. I have removed the head and the gasket is perfect [it's a Jap import and has only done 60,000 miles]. So now I intend to put it all back together with a new gasket and do what I should have done and fill the water and check for leaks in the system. There isnt a pipe obviously gone. Has anyone any suggestions about what else could be the cause? Cheers
