  1. Landi41, Cheers....pretty much as I thought. I will have to check with the local LR specialist here and see what they can do. Steve
  2. is barking at the moon !!

  3. Hi all, I have a 2003 Disco II NAS spec (California I believe) anyway....... Is it possible to remove the emissions systems that are part of a NAS spec vehicle and not have an effect ? Or, does the ECU etc require re-programming to compensate for this ? The reason why I ask is that this stuff is taking up room in the engine bay when it is not necessary for where I live (Dubai) and I need to do some mods such I can move my washer bottle into that area. Any help appreciated. Steve
  4. Hi BM, I live out in Dubai these days hence the need for a more sand orientated tire. I presently have Bridgestone Dueler Hp's fitted though not too happy with them in offroad performance.
  5. Hi all, Has anyone used/using Nitto Dune Grapplers at all and if so what do you reckon to them ? This is probably aimed more for those who live in sandy areas but any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Also and I know this has been asked before but what would be a sensible size to use on Disco II with a 2" lift used as a daily driver. Cheers
  6. David, Thanks for the info. Like you mentioned the OBD II is for engine management etc. This is primarily what I want. Maybe given time and money I will progress to the Blackbox, however for the time being I will get an OBD II diagnostic to deal with the annoying "Service Engine Soon" light (even though it is serviced every 5000 kms !) Thanks Steve
  7. cipx2 and Jim, Thanks guys. Having checked out both it seems that nearly all NAS cars/trucks etc have OBD I or II (on board diagnostics) for the North American market. This is due to legislation they have over there. As such there seems to be plenty of choices for a diagnostic tool which can interpret fault codes and help sort/clear them at a pretty reasonable cost (from what I have read between $80 - $160 US). So it seems I will head down this route for the time being and find out a little more info. Thanks again Steve
  8. Thanks BogMonster, Can anyone then point me in the right direction as to what I can use/get for a NAS spec V8 Disco II and from where. Cheers
  9. Hi all, Just a couple of questions: 1) Is the Nanocom only specific for TD5 Discovery's or is it an all round diagnostic tool for petrol variants as well ? 2) I have a V8 NAS spec Discovery II and would like to purchase a Nanocom (if it is the right piece of equipment) for said vehicle. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what I require and where from. The other problem being is that I live in Dubai so shipping etc etc. Many thanks Steve
  10. Thanks, I will get under and have a good check over and grease everything. If it doesn't settle then new UJ's it is. Steve
  11. Hi, Is it unusual for UJ's to start playing around even after a relative short lifespan ? The reason I ask is that I have only 33000 miles up but at around 70 Mph (120Kms) I get distinct vibration through the rear. Therefore I was wondering whether this was the UJ causing this or something else I need to check out ? I had the wheels balanced again to see if this helped to sort it which it did to an extent however the vibration is still there. Steve
  12. All sorted, And not a peep out of the garage responsible.......took the local dealer a couple of hours to sort and get the Disco back.....which was nice !
  13. Hi, Has anyone had to replace the locking mechanism on a type II before ? Went to the garage the other day to fill up and the forecourt attendant snapped the pin which secures the flap . If anyone has had this problem and rectified it can you let me know. Cheers Steve
  14. Hi Rodewaryer, As far as I know Disco's that were brought into GCC countries were fitted with 4.0ltr V8's. US models were fitted with 4.6 ltr V8's. The reasons for this I am unsure about. Other wiser heads than mine should be able to tell you why. Steve
  15. JW thanks for your info. Streaky ......Shropshire you say............ That's where I come from and there is plenty of areas where you can get down and dirty so to speak I have had a look at ME4x4 some interesting stuff going on there so will be keeping ann eye on that as well. I have seen the Unimog its a pretty impressive piece of kit. Can't imagine being bounced around in that in competition. Must be fun though. Thanks again guys.
  16. Hi Streaky, Thanks for all your info really appreciate it. Not come across www.me4x4.org before so I will have a look see what is going on there and maybe pick up some tips. I have to admit that I have got some experience with dune bashing as my previous car was a 1994 J33p Wrangler so I have compressor, tyre deflators, shovel etc. I have used Icon for my servicing for that wagon previously so I am happy with what they did for me. Not tried AAA though I have heard that they have a workshop in Al Quoz as well as Rashidya. Is there any preference between there workshops ? The tyres I do have currently fitted are Cooper Discoverer ATR on 16" rims. I am considering changing these to Kumho Dune Grapplers or Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ are these any good or would it be down to personal preference ? Well I probably will have loads of questions over the coming months so I will probably PM you and pick your brains. Once again thanks for your help. Any other advice gladly taken on board. Steve
  17. Hi, Right here goes. I live in the UAE (Dubai) and I have recently got a Series II (2003) USA import here. The engine is the 4.6 V8 not the standard GCC one which is the 4ltr. What I would like to do is tart upgrading/modifying my Disco so I can have fun out in the desert without trashing it. It is my daily driver so I don't want compromise too much its on road capabilities. However compromises can be made. Any advice that can be passed on about drivetrain/ engine/ suspension etc would be greatly appreciated and if there is anyone with local knowledge of where to source parts or anyone knows of reputable companies that ship that would be great. Thanks for your time.
  18. Lol....not quite. Though sometimes with manufacturers I do wonder Thanks again for the info though. steve
  19. Yes thank you.....that's the first thing I did the owners manual I have does not give any idea what those buttons are for!! That's why I posted here so I could get clever comments ! Anyway many thanks for that I do appreciate you taking the time and putting up the explanation for me. Cheers
  20. Hi, I have a series II Discovery which is a US import. On the rear view mirror there are 3 buttons on the left and I can't find any reference for them anywhere (the mirror is the self dimming type with built in compass). Can anyone please tell what the buttons are for and how they are used. Many thanks Steve
