bill van snorkle
How critical is it that the sliding end of the front prop on a series 3 88in is towards the axle. If the sliding joint is in good order it's not critical at all. If it's a bit loose and wobbly and you don't have free wheeling hubs it would depend on the drive mode, you may get a little more whip vibration at speed in 2 wheel drive with the joint at the transfercase end because the wheels are driving the unloaded propshaft and the wobbly bit is further away from the drive which is the diff. In 4wd the transfercase is driving the propshaft and if you have the wobbly bit further away at the diff end it may whip more but the propshaft is under torsional load as it is also driving the wheels so may not vibrate as bad. You are welcome to disregard everything I wrote as I made it up as I went along and now I am totally confused Bill.
ChrisV8
I have always understood it is preferable to have the sliding joint at the transfer box / handbrake drum end, my workshop manuals for RR etc always say this as does my Series One one.
