no-one seems to speak particularly highly of US winch manufacturers, is there a reason for that?

The Fire engine winch is rated to 5.5 tonnes tops, I suppose specialist equipment would be called in for heavier work; the winch box is in 10mm plate mainly, I know there is at least one person who'll be pleased to hear that! Although it's bolted [with what closely resemble normal M10 bolts] to an 8mm plate.

that white stuff is snow, too, simply not very much of it in fact, in the time it's taken to upload the pictures, the sun has melted it all! B)
