rrman
For some reason my RRC bonnet won't open as it has done religiously so far. The handle inside doesn't give like it should and the gap between the bonnet and the headlight surround has gone so it looks like the bonnet has closed too far. Any ideas on how I can open it without breaking the bonnet cable or catch? MOT is due next week so needs to be a quick fix!!!! Thanks in advance RRman

Thanks in advance RRman My last Rangey was a pig to get the bonnet open, the only way i could do it was to hit/push the bonnet on the side on the drivers side near the front (this will push open the bonnet latch a bit more) and hey presto it always opened. In the end i perfected it and could do it by myself! swift bang in the right place as i pulled the bonnet latch cable it would pop up! I have seen this happen a few times when the latch is very dirty. Failing that you can prise the grill off and get straight on the latch with some levers but it can be a pig to release. rrman
Thanks for the info. Managed to open it this morning, but found that the whole engine is now a lovely brown colour after taking a mud run a little too fast last weekend! Anybody know any good / cheap way of cleaning it? There's a guy near Orpington who is charging £20 for a steam clean. Any better ideas people??
steve_d
Are you planning to eat off it? If not, then leave it as it is unless there are specific components you feel the need to remove the mud from in which case the garden hose should be enough. geoffbeaumont
Take it to the local jetwash and hose it off. If it's really bad you might get banned for making a mess, but if it's just the engine bay that's unlikely. Which reminds me - I need to do mine. Last time I took it there one of my friends had helpfully decided my bonnet needed adjusting, with the inevitable result It's fixed been opened and put back how it was now, but I haven't got round to returning to the jetwash. Steve I was just thinking that it might be doing some harm, but all the replies i've had seem to suggest it doesn't!! PS - is that a Dakar conversion you've got on your profile pic? If so have you got a link with pics etc as i'm planning on doing one in the next year or two!!!

This is the web site http://www.dakar4x4.me.uk/ I'm a bit on hold at the moment as I still have some bits to get. This may also effect your plans. Steve Bennett the owner of Dakar was sadly killed in a road accident about a month ago. The business was basically Steve and his partner Tori so it all depends on when/if she decides to continue. Either way I wish her all the best. Steve
