Matt B
Hello Just putting the finishing touches on my new Classic ready for the weekend and have discovered problems with the transfer box. It is nigh on impossible to get into low range and on the 1 - 100 times that it does engage it pops straight back out again. I have a standard manual t-box kicking around here, is there an easy fix for the BW or can I simply fit the manual one? We found the linkage after stripping the interior out and have adjusted it but to no avail... Matt
bishbosh
Matt, I presume you are trying this with the main gearbox in neutral (I'm assuming an auto box wth the BW?) Oil level OK? (ATF in a BW) The only other external fault I can think of is the mechanism is gummed up and needs a bit of lube at the box end . Otherwise give Ashcrofts a call, they are always helpful. By "spare manual box" I presume you mean an LT230 transfer case? It will bolt straight onto the back of the autobox but your props won't fit as they are a different length from the BW props. By the way, dropping a t-case on a RR is a pain as there is not enough room to get it off the output shaft without lowering the rear of the gearbox. would stronly recommend getting hold of four very long M10 bolts, cutting the heads off, grinding in a slot for a screwdriver and using them as guides to slide the t cas off on. Saves lots of pain and knackered seals. Good luck!
Matt B
Thanks Bish I checked the ATF and it was very low, I have topped it up as well as I can and it is trying to engage but still won't - the mech is all free. Looks like a call to Ashcroft. I had a look at the linkages and they are different on my manual box Matt
