yoda9999
Hello all, I hope someone here could give me a clue to my problem... Discovery 1999 SD Series I, automatic, purchased in America. Symptoms: very difficult to start engine, must turn key and push in the key very hard several times to start. Lights and radio turn on easily, lights on dashboard are fine. There is no mechanical sound or any sound coming from the engine or the car. Once the Disco is started, seems to work fine, no problems accelerating, stopping, turning or backing up. Noticed while driving that none of the temperature, RPM or speedometer needles are moving, and the odometer tumblers are also not rotating. Also, while I was troubleshooting, after starting the engine I wiggled the key in the ignition switch, and the electricity flickered on and off, causing engine to sputter. Is this a problem with the ignition switch, and could it be a mechanical or electrical problem? I hope it is not expensive to fix. Thanks in advance! BogMonster
Sounds like a dodgy ignition switch to me, the switch on the back can be changed separately from the actual barrel, IIRC it is just held on with a couple of screws or bolts.
