Jason2 Posted June 23, 2008 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Hi Got a dammed strange noise on my 1995 300tdi Discovery for a good few months now Dunt do it all the time very intermitant & you can only hear it on tick over seems to be coming from the sump/crank shaft pulley area???? Not water pump,alternator,pas as it still makes the noise with the auxillary belt off. Have a listen http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=TPo4IrftjO4 Any ideas? DiscoTDi Posted June 23, 2008 Share Posted June 23, 2008 sounds like a scraping sort of noise - is that the noise ? based on the frequency and nature of the noise it could it be something to do with the camshaft timing belt/tensioner assembly area ? The cam belt runs at half crankshaft speed, so say 300 RPM at tickover and the noise seems to come in two's with about a sec gap between, I can imagine the speed of the cam belt traveling around the pullies would coincide with the frequency of the noise when it occurs.
