  2. Your welcome matey Nice to meet you and your family and see your amazeing set up
  3. Great stuff Jason Thanks for the report, we were wondering how you got on! Jason
  4. Hi jason How you doing? all ready for off ? My experience in over 20 years out here in France is that the Breakdown cover is useless (unless it can't be fixed and they will take you & vehicle home). As you know we have a holiday rental and nearly every year some bod breaks down (non Land Rovers )The last being a family in a Ford Galexy where the alternator went just before the end of their Holiday and it went like this. All Thursday morning on the phone, Breakdown truck turns up Thursday afternoon to pick vehicle up and take it to a Ford dealer over 40 miles away when there was one a lot nearer.Unlike in the UK the drivers refuse to look at the vehicle on the spot so it might have been just a loose wire. Our client went with the breakdown truck and got a Taxi back that evening. Friday morning Garage comfirmed that the alternator was duff but were unable to say when they could get a replacement or fit it as they were too busy (every ones on Holiday in France in August) As we had new clients arriveing Saturday the breakdown cover arranged for a Taxi to come and pick them up Saturday Morning and take them 40 miles to a Hotel at Poitiers that was still at least 40 miles from the garage. Cut a long story short our client had to go mental with the garage and they managed to get it fixed for the following Monday afternoon and charged him nearly £900 The breakdown cover was great paying for everthing but the repair, hotel, taxi etc... but let down by the garage, I could probably tell you another 10 tales like this that have happened to clients over the years. My advice is if you can fix it your self do Have a safe trip and see you Wednesday Jason
  5. Personaly not got a clue Copied from another forum from a guy that rebuilds gearboxs "if its clip that goes onto selector shaft its fitted onto shaft just behind where it comes out of bearing plate, only fitted on defender boxes" I have a Disco LT77 box in bits and can't find a clip anything like, mind you I did'nt take it in bit's so might have been lost!
  6. Thanks a million Retroanoconda Star man Part ordered, after further investigation this clip is only on Defender gearboxs hence the reason why I can't find it on my LT77 in bit's as it's off a Discovery! Many thanks once again. Jason
  7. Thanks western I will have a third look at my box in bit's tomorrow as it's dark now.
  8. Hi Just been serviceing the 110 200tdi today as we are off to Morocco in two weeks and when I dropped the oil in the gearbow this was stuck to the magnetic drain plug Half a circlip, 20mm diameter, looks like it goes on to a 10mm shaft! oil was well full of bronze bit's too! I have a LT 77 box in bits (long story) and can't find anything like it ?????? Not over worried as I once found a similar chewed up thing in my series 3 box that's still going strong but still ? Box was reconditioned 20k ago and first oil change at 10K was no sign of nasties! Anyone shed any light? Thanks in advance Jason
  9. Hi Les Yeh but are they any good ??
  10. My breathers are fine! Anyone any experience with 75/80 gear oil??? & the bigger oil capacity plate cooler that replaces the flat one (ashcrofts sell them for £65 snakes) ?????
  11. Join the club I also changed the rear flange seal that was pishing oil out (No hand brake) but not the flange , tried checking the surface with micrometers but not feasable as the seal runs on a very thin surface. I suspect that one is leaking again but too early to be sure! Flanges are cheap as chips so I would recomend to safe the hassle change flange, output seal & bearing (easy to get out, take out the circlip holding it in,put the flange and nut back and you can use the half shaft as a bearing puller by tapping the flange forward aginst the nut)
  12. That one was the first one I tried and it leaked straight after, I have just changed the flange and when I ordered new seal from same company they sent me a genuine LR seal. Not leaking now so was it the flange or the seal ??? Spoke to a Landy box re-con guy and he said that they always fit genuine LR seals otherwise they all leak!! Changed oil at the same time for millers 75/80 semi synthetic and I now have more undetermined leaks from the Transfer box Anybod else has experience with this ? Going to Morocco this summer and think the 75/80 might be too thin anyway! And yet another question Anybody had any experience with the larger recessed plate/cooler that replaces the flat inspection plate on the transfer box??? Cheers Jason
  13. To the best of my knowledge there is now only one that supercedes 2 seperate ones http://cgi.ebay.fr/LAND-ROVER-OIL-SEAL-LT230-TRANSFER-BOX-FLANGE-FTC4939-/390245013901?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5adc6a598d
  14. Put a new bearing back in with a dab off thread lock, new seal & flange and touch wood it's not leaking any more
  15. Had the bearing out again and it's not a "sloppy fit" as thought Will try again with a new flange as the flange after further investigation was not as good as I thought still would'nt have thought that it would let it leak to that extent!
  16. Thanks western! I do know how to do it, it's stopping it leaking again the problem. Got it in bit's again and have ordered another flange as I can't see any other reason why it's still leaking!
  17. Hi The seal on the front transfer box output shaft is leaking badly on my 110 200tdi (yeh I know they all do bla,bla,bla...... this is realy badly,). Changed the seal (genuine LR part),the flange is ok, still leaking, as there seamed to be a lot of play in the output shaft I did it again changing the output bearing but the old bearing and new bearing came out and went in far to easily-still leaking !!!! The only thing that I can think of is that the bearing is a sloppy fit in the housing hence the play and the reason why the seal is failing, would thread lock on the bearing cure this or just be a bodge??? I have another transfer box in bits that does'nt have any play in the front output shaft. Is it possible to change the output shaft houseing in situ if need be ??? Any help or advice much appreciated as it's doing my kin head in ! Cheers Jason
  18. I use series mudflaps on my 110, only cost about £8 snakes a pair, you have to mod them a bit to fit them to the rear cross member as the angle is different but they do the job and being rubber as apose to plastic don't split like the standerd 110 do or get ripped off (as much).
  19. Sorry to bring an old one up but I have exactly the same problem! Googled it to death, and can only come up with this thread!! The wifes 2001 td4 freelander lost power and the mil light came on about a month ago, took it to a garage mate of mine who has a very expensive fault reader, wiped it but the mil light came straight back on again- code: P1612. It has run sweet as ever since but the mil light is still on. Problem is that I'm in France and the local LR garage is not an option as they are incompetant robbing gits! Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance Jason
  20. Sorry matey but I haven't yet ! It's not a bad leak just a niggle and way down the priority list! Good luck!
  21. I changed a VCU unit for a re-con unit for a mate of mine, out of curiosity I stuck a jack under and lifted the front wheels off the ground, stuck it in gear and tried to go forward- Guess what ? Would'nt move a cm!!!
  22. Many thanks for all your help/advice everybody especialy jasonG4110 who has been a proper great chap helping me to take my "rose coloured" glasses off on certain vehicles that I have found. Eventualy bought a 110 SW 200tdi off e-bay (after nearly going mad)from a realy nice couple (it helps, especialy if you are over 1000km's away ) and will be going to pick it up Easter weekend. 25. And why do you think that is?? The snow you have had recently?? There seem to be a lot about at dealers that are'nt shifting or making their reserve on fleabay! I have a poorly 109 sw safari but I can't see it on the road in the near future!
