Young bobtail Rhys
How involved is it to convert a 1988 3.5efi rangie to a 300tdi mated to the ZF auto? Have the engine mounts got to be completely changed or just moved and is there a specific bell housing? TIA

Have the engine mounts got to be completely changed or just moved and is there a specific bell housing?TIA How involved? Fairly. It is not a quick day's work but, equally, it isn't rocket science. Engine mounts? Yes, they will have to be moved about. Specific Bell housing? Yes (you won't find one on its own), and the gearbox also has differant shift points. The Torque convertor is also differant. IMHO its better off finding a complete 300tdi engine and autobox and switching the lot. You then get all the bits you need of which there are a lot (the list is over 2 sides of A4 long and gets expensive very quickly if you have to buy bits). HTH Will (converted 2.8 tgv 90 to auto quite a few years ago now) Just converted a V8 110 to 300TDI Auto, having spent ages working out various costs decided by far the cheapest was was to buy a complete 300tdi Disco, then at least you get the chance to drive it etc, (drove mine back over 120 miles so it all had a good test). Once i had stripped out what i wanted sold the rest which recouped a fair amount. As is said above not the most difficult job in the world, but not going too be done in a day either.
