dees
Folks, I am building a Rangie based hybrid, and due to the calipers being fubar-ed, I'm planning on changing all four. The base vehicle was a 1982 Rangie. i would like if possible to upgrade the brakes to cope with a 3.9 or 4.2 engine, and am a bit at a loss as to what equivalent Part No's to get. Could anyone advise as to suitable part numbers and whether I should be looking at things like vented discs, bigger discs, etc. thanks Dees
Guest diesel_jim
If it had that age (1982) of axles, then you can go for the vented discs (and wider calipers) which are fairly cheap, for the front end. for the back, maybe cross drilled, although whether that'll make much difference, not sure. are you planning just to do trials? or fast road stuff? because if it's just a mud toy, then the vented brakes won't make that much difference anyway, they'll not get hot enough to warrant mega cooling down. Orgasmic Farmer
If its of any interest I have a complete set of calipers for an early Disco here which are probably (no guarantee) the same as an early RRC. Removed due to fitment of Nissan Axles on the truck. The fronts are fine and work well, the rears are only a few months old and like new. £100 delivered?? Can take pics/measurements if interested.... steve_d
Having had issues taking my Dakar through SVA I would advise not to do to much to the rear brakes. If your hybrid is now much lighter on the rear then you could have too much braking effort and require an adjustable brake compensating valve to make sure the front wheels lock first.
