martifers
Has anyone had this problem before/know what may be causing it? The engine fires and runs for about 2 secs, if that, and cuts out. When I turn the ignition on the fuel pump takes about 30 secs to get up to pressure and there is a quite strong hissing sound. I can keep the engine running by keeping high revs, otherwise it cuts out straight away. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Llanigraham
The hissing sound would suggest you have a leak somewhere.
dooroy
What year is X reg - up to 2003 or so they had 2 low fuel pressure pumps ( one in the tank and one in the engine bay under the battery beside the fuel filter ) ; from then on just one (in rear wheel arch ) Would agree that the hissing indicates a leak - soon as engine starts the pump/pumps are unable to maintain pressure in the system so ECU shuts it down to protect the high pressure pump . Has the fuel filter been changed lately : if not it could be blocking up and causing excessive restriction or if it has been changed has it been tightened sufficently - was seal lubricated with dsl etc ; were any connections disturbed ?
