Hi friends. I amfrom dubai and new to the land rover family. Got myself a lr3 v6 in august 08. been very pleased with it till the coolant problem cropped up. First time around (2 months back)after a desert drive the coolant just came gushing out like a geyser and thereafter the vehicle just packed up, refusing to start (guess it was a safety procedure by all the intelligent electronics). Couple of days back and 3k after the 1st incident got an ominous "low coolant level " warning. Took it straight to the agency and was told the engine has an intermittent overheating problem( reasons unkown). Still awaiting the final verdict from them. Anyone experienced something similar? Any information on the subject deeply appreciated.

Petrol v6 or TDV6?

its a petrol V6. Got any clues ? last i heard from some friends another guy suffered a similar situation while off roading. i hope its not a regular shortcoming for this model. land rovers are built for such things and i hope they live up to their reputation.

There is a common known issue on the deisel version, in which the level float in the header tank sinks and gives a false low coolant warning. A new header tank should contain a modified float. However, gushing coolant does not sound good.

If its the 4.0 V6 petrol variant that you have then you may struggle to find experienced owners in the UK as its not available here. There is a USA forum on DISCO3.CO.UK that may be more helpful.

There's one thread you should read there: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic21752.html

Although it was a V8 petrol, it happened in Dubai and might give you some clues.

Edit: the low coolant warning isn't a problem, it will be easily traced and solved, no problems here.

The worrying issue is the engine overheated. That might be harder to trace.

Keep us posted, if possible.

Good luck!
