Flinders Ranges - Skytrek

Anyone done it recently?

I'm apparently doing the trek in October to provide support to a mate in his 4wd Courier. He obviously want's a proper 4wd there in case he gets a bit stuck. :D The problem is he has a friend coming along too in a newish Rodeo on standard tyres. The Courier is on 31x10.5 MTRs which I'm sure will be OK, but I assume the Rodeo will be on stocky 29s. Am I (as I suspect) in for a day of dragging or winching Jap undercarriages over rocky ledges?

The property owners wont allow the likes of RAV4s and Freelanders etc to attempt Skytrek, but they reckon the Rodeo will get through eventually. It's supposed to take about 6 hours for the 60km trek.

Hiya Des

I've been to the Flinders many times in my erm...younger years, but never with a 4wd, always a car & trailer with a dirt bike onboard. The problem is that on a bike all tracks are pretty easy, and that makes your impression of the difficulty for a 4wd a bit out of whack.

I found some more info on that site you posted, thanks:

They've given it a 3/5 difficulty rating, sounds like it should be OK for the riceburner.
